Kamal Haasan remembers his guru K Balachander on 91st birthday with throwback pic

Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to share a black-and-white photo with late director K Balachander on his 91st birth anniversary. He wrote that he got introduced to him when he was 16 years old.

Kamal Haasan took to social media to remember his mentor, K Balachander, on his 91st birth anniversary. He shared a throwback photo with Balachander and spoke about his prowess in cinema. In his tweet, the Vishwaroopam actor said that he got acquainted with Balachander when he was 16. Legendary director K Balachander died on December 23, 2014, due to age-related ailments.

 
 

KAMAL HAASAN'S EMOTIONAL POST ON K BALACHANDER'S BIRTHDAY

It was director K Balachander who introduced Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth to mainstream cinema. In multiple interviews, Kamal Haasan has spoken about the influence of K Balachander (fondly called KB by everyone) in his life and career. On his 91st birthday anniversary, he shared a black-and-white photo of them both.

Sharing the photo, Kamal Haasan wrote, "My teacher KB is well versed in cinema and has made his mark. I got introduced to him when I was 16. This is a golden jubilee year for our guru-sishya relationship. Remembering K Balachander on his 91st birthday."

K Balachander, fondly called KB, was a pioneer in the film industry. In his career spanning 50 years, he had directed nearly 100 films. He was known as a tough taskmaster in the Tamil film industry. Many actors including Nagesh, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vivek, Nasser and Prakash Raj said that they owe their careers to him.

K Balachander had won nine National Film Awards in his five-decade-long career. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 1987 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2010.

He made his debut with Neerkumizhi in 1965 and went on to direct many award-winning films such as Iru Kodugal, Thamarai Nenjam, Aval Oru Thododar Kathai, Apoorva Ragangal, Thappu Thalangal, Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Thaneer Thaneer, among several other masterpieces.
