Weaker sections, women dominate nominated posts

At last, the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday rewarded as many as 135 YSR Congress party leaders by posting them in as many number of nominated posts in various public sector and government undertakings in the state.

The list of the party leaders in the nominated posts was announced by advisor (public affairs) to the AP government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy at Tadepalli.

For the first time, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government has denied nominated posts for the sitting MLAs and MPs.

Accordingly, firebrand actress-turned-politician and Nagari MLA Roja Selvamani has lost her post of chairperson of AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).

She was replaced by Mettu Govinda Reddy, former Telugu Desam Party MLA from Rayadurgam in Anantapur district.

Similarly, Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, who was an ex-MLC and chairman of AP Scheduled Caste Welfare Corporation during the TDP regime, was also rewarded with the post of advisor (social justice) to the government.

As has been the stand of the chief minister, women and weaker sections dominated the nominated posts. Out of 135 posts, 68 were given to women (50.4 per cent) and the remaining 67 to men.

Similarly, 76 out of the 135 posts (56 percent) were given to weaker sections including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and Minorities.

The remaining 59 posts were given to the upper castes, including Reddys, Kammas and Kapus.
