Former Australian cricketer Xavier Doherty who represented the national cricket team across formats is now working as a carpenter. Yes, you read it right. He retired from international cricket in 2017. He turned into a carpenter after his retirement from the sport.

The left-arm spin bowler has represented Australia in 4 Tests, 60 ODIs and 11 T20Is. He picked up 7, 55 and 10 wickets respectively. He might not have had the knack for taking more wickets but he can take pride in the fact that he was one of the best economical bowlers in the team.

He maintained an impressive economy of 4.77 in ODIs and 3.58 in Tests. Meanwhile, the Australian Cricketers' Association recently uploaded a video on its Twitter account in which the former Australian cricketer Doherty can be seen picking up the necessary lessons of carpentry.

The veteran made his international debut in 2010. Since then, he was in and out of the playing XI. He missed out on featuring in the 2011 World Cup due to a back injury. However, he was part of the Australian cricket team that won the ICC World Cup 2015 although he didn't find a place in the starting XI in the final.

Xavier said when he retired from the game, he didn't think about what he is going to do in future. To make his ends meet, he did several types of jobs including landscaping, office and cricket related work.

Nonetheless, he decided to become a carpenter as he learnt the art of carpentry. He is a trained carpenter now. According to him, he received much-needed assistance from the Australian Cricketers Association transition manager Carla. Doherty was also given some funds to take care of his education.
