Actually most people don't know or understand that Kalam was never a rocket scientist, he was a Missile Engineer as you mentioned. Plus the talk is that when Pokhran tests happened back in 1998, the yield that was reported from the test was far higher than what actually was the case. This was reported by a lot of countries who had satellites who calculated that, however they say Kalam did a great job in covering this up and saving face for the Vajpayee govt.
