Why was Ram in the forest? A. Because his father Dashrath banished him to the forest for 14 years. His wife Sita and his brother Laxman followed him to the forest. Q. Why did Dashrath banish Ram to the forest? A. Because Dashrath's wife Kekayi claimed the two boons he had promised her, using them to enthrone her son Bharat, to the throne of Ayodhya. Q. Why did Dashrath promise two boons to his wife Kekayi? A. Because during a battle with Sambharasura, Dashrath's chariot wheel came off, on account of a lock-pin falling off; and Kekayi saved the day by using her finger as a lock-pin to keep the wheel in place. Pleased with her, Dashrath promised her two boons... If only the bloody chariot wheel maker had made a quality wheel lock pin, we'd be spared the Ramayana and the ensuing violence that still continues in Ram's name...
