It does not work like that . Tesla sells 1/10 of Toyota but compare tier stocks .

Future potential is what drives the stock price… Ford and GM will be stagnant for the years to come.. Tesla stepped into a new and niche segment and succeeded in making profits by scaling up production… Rivian is yet to scale up their production and is struggling to do it.. Amazon and Ford wrote off their stake in Rivian indicating that they do not have hopes on this..

Ford has a lot of Debt where as RIVN has a lot of cash.

Production requires a lot of money to source materials, build supplier network and factories. ford and gm has 100’s of billions worth of factories, supplier network build over the years. They also have consumer financing arm like in case of gm where 80% of their debt is consumer loans.

RIVN doesn’t have any cash either, they raised equity througj ipo which is burning at a record pace, they will go belly up if they can’t raise production and their stock might trade below $10 soon(23 million shares are to be sold). When they need additional funding the would have to go the markets as dilution is going is to further hurt them.

This is almost impossible. 

 

They have $18 Billion in cash and their market cap is about 25B. If they go to $10, they have to trade less than their cash on hand, which is impossible IMO.

 

With about 900M shares, for it to trade at $10, the market cap will be half of the cash on hand. 

 

It will stay at or above $18 (cash position) and then trade side ways for some time.
