it's not young vs old. Its rural vs urban.

majority of Iran/turkey is still highly religious. Turkey and Iran are diametrically opposite in the sense that secularism was imposed on Turkey after the defeat of Ottoman by Ataturk, which triggered an islamic backlash several decades later. 

and Islamism was imposed on Iran. by the shah with the help of US.
