He's a Keralite born & raised in Ohio.

Affirmative action is a much needed initiative from the govt to empower racial minorities such as African Americans & Native Indians who went through horrible racism & slavery. Until US addresses these issues & make sure these minorities(Not Asians & Other Immigrants but African & Native Americans), they cannot fully achieve equity.

Same in India. Unless SC/STs & others get the necessary impetus from the Govt with quotas in Private sector such as IT, Universities, Banking sector. I think major US companies such as Amazon, Facebook, Google etc.,  in India  should start implementing these reservations based on caste. if not India cannot develop as a country. Since the govt is not paying any reparations, it is justified to ask for reservations.

Affirmative action is a policy aimed at increasing opportunities for people who are underrepresented in various areas of our society based on their gender, race, sexuality, creed or nationality12. It was first created by President John F. Kennedy in 19612. Do you want to know more about affirmative action?

Not necessarily every Brahmin is against reservations. Brahmins are like the Jewish people who are on the both sides of politics. Left & Right. Seattle's Lawmaker who very recently passed historical caste-based discrimination law in the City of Seattle Kshama Sawant is born into a Tamil Brahmin Iyengar Family with "Ramanujan" surname of the very famous & Gifted Mathematician Srinivasa "Ramanujan" clan AFAIK. (Source: Wikipedia)

Kamala Harris's Mother was born into Tamil Iyer Brahmin family but a Liberal Brahmin Family. Vijayawada's very own world's renowned sex specialist Dr Samaram's family is also a liberal Brahmin family who are famously Atheists.  So just because somebody is a Brahmin doesn't mean he/she is automatically against reservation or pro rightwing.

US at the time was different. It was overwhelmingly White Majority & was during the peak of civil rights movement. It is clear that the oppressed should be given requisite opportunities to achieve equity in the society. A lot of people clearly benefitted from it & should be allowed until every oppressed Minority is uplifted from poverty & has requisite skills to be a part of contributing member of the society. Affirmative action also addresses systematic racism.

The number of govt jobs are lesser than what we have in the private sector. So if reservations are given on the basis of population, there will equitable distribution of jobs & job opportunities among people. Every student/employee is studious, meritorious. We are all same race.

Given their very small % of population, A lot of them are progressives. So the question is what about others?!
