I have asked HVAC technician, He said they wont ring until the levels are at very dangerous level and you will not even be conscious at that levels.

Dont mix Smoke Detectors with CO detectors.

finished garage, no vents and I keep garage open while running. Also make sure exhaust is at least 2 ft outside garage door 

Leaking into home chances are less. Last year someone died during Texas power outage while running car inside closed garage and them sitting in the car

whoever it was gave you wrong advice, they work perfectly fine. If you don’t believe it, take one normal kidde co detector and put it close to water heater or furnace exhaust chute and it will beep 

I know the difference between smoke and co detector. They also come 2 in 1
