Avoid transferring significant sums back and forth, you have to explain those all transactions to your lender in writing to prove legitimate of the funds for closing for a mere $100 profit, which isn't worth the hassle.

Naah. If the funds are transferred between applicants accounts, providing statements will be good enough. Assuming ts is going to use those funds for downpayment, even 50k with 4% will give 1k in 6 months

don't go to banks. Go to fidelity or any of your brokers and look for CDs in fixed income. You buy like mutual funds - choose a term - 1 month onwards . you can also choose to autoroll.
