Misinformation is more in the West than in India.. News channels in the name of news give their opinions and twist it to suit their viewpoints. The same news item is presented  differently on Fox News and MSNBC. People also claim freedom of speech to support their view.

Look at any message boards here or Twitter or Facebook .. all of them are echo chambers with twisted viewpoints and fake news..

Fake news is everywhere, but the consequences of Fake/distorted/cherrypicked news has far reaching implications in a country like India. A small piece of misinformation can spark a mob fight with loss to lives and property. The population set that is impacted by fake news is much more than west. The echo chambers are larger and the people in power have the motivation to keep the people in these echo chambers.

That comes with education.. many ppl are uneducated and lack basic common sense because of the social situation… there are also millions of people who are getting news for the first time on the phone, compared to the other countries.. they will learn to separate fake news from real news..

any situation, parties are trying to define and control the narrative.. here in US, the right’s narrative is mostly suppressed and the left’s narrative is promoted most of the time.. it’s the other way around in India..

Education does not get you common sense. And we are more emotional than being rational. All it takes is a touch of sensitive sentiment and reasoning goes out for a toss. And this is what follows

p.s. observation from some of the people in this db.
