I have used many times.

You can use AVR rule to travel to mexico and canada (only countries with border with USA)

 

However you should NOT surrender your I-94 and should return to USA with in 30 days and most important,if you attend for VISA stamping the AVR rule will become void and can not return back if your visa is denied !
