MACHILIPATNAM PORT

  • M/s. Machilipatnam Port Limited (MPL), Hyderabad, consortium of M/s. Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd., and Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited and Associates/ Affiliates of Navayuga Engineering CompanyLtd., was awarded the development of Machilipatnam Port on BOOT (Build, Operate, Own and Transfer) basis for a period of 30 years (extendable by 10 years + 10 years). The concession agreement is signed on 07-06-2010.
  • This port is well connected by road and rail. Airport is available at Gannavaram, which is about 60 km from Machilipatnam and 20 km from Vijayawada.

    • North :- Lat. 16° 21’.43.27’ N, Long. 81° 27’.57.86’ E to point Lat. 16° 8’.5.15’ N, Long. 81° 27’.44.48’ E
    • South:- Lat. 15° 57’.24.12’ N, Long. 81° 6’.46.69’ E to point Lat. 15° 57’.6.19’ N, Long. 81° 20’.50.22’ E
    • East :- Lat. 16° 8’.5.15’ N, Long. 81° 27’.44.48’ E to point Lat. 15° 57’.6.19’ N, Long. 81° 20’.50.22’ E
    • West :- Lat. 16° 21’.43.27’ N, Long. 81° 27’.57.86’ E to point Lat. 15° 57’.24.12’ N, Long. 81° 6’.46.69’ E.
  • The Port is proposed to be developed in the land to an extent of Ac.4,800.
  • Port Conservancy powers vested with M/s Machilipatnam Port Ltd.


DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL:
  • Port has a good potential for handling coal requirements of Vijayawada Thermal Power Plant 10 mtspa and also requirements of other Cement Plants spread over in the Krishna belt.
  • Iron ore at Bayyavaram and Baryte deposits in Khammam District can find way through the Machilipatnam Port.
  • There is a proposal to develop a mega thermal Power Plant near Machilipatnam during 11th Five Year Plan.
  • Major agricultural products are paddy, sugarcane, pulses, tobacco, chillies and fruits
  • The mineral resources include limestone (cement and flux grade), barites, chromate and granite.


PRESENT STAGE OF THE PROJECT:

  • About Rs.1860 Crores investment is estimated for the development of the Port with 3 berths, breakwaters, navigational channels, floating crafts, mechanical equipments etc., in the phase-I
  • Land Acquisition works are in progress.
  • Proposed to construct of 2 Nos. General cargo berth and 1 OSV Berths.
  • Proposed Depth of the Channel: 12.80 Mt.
  • Proposed ship handled capacity is 65000 DWT in Phase I
  • Anticipated handling capacity is 17 Million Ton.
  • Port is expected to be in operation by 2014.

THE KEY FEATURES

  • All weather, deep water.
  • It has a channel depth of 12 metres.
  • The berth waiting time is the minimum in the country of 0.31 hours as against 5.0 hours in major port.
  • The vessel turnround time is one day as against 3.5 days in major ports.
  • It has secured warehouses and spacious storage yards.
  • It is blessed with an efficient evacuation corridor and rail/road linkage.
  • It is an ISO and ISPS certified port.


PRESENT STAGE:

  • Commercial operations are commenced from 1-4-1999
  • Berths availability: 4 Berths are in operation
    • Cargo Berth – 910 Mts
    • Multi cargo berth – 635 Mts
    • Offshore supply vessels Berth
    • Coast Guard Berth
    • The 5th and 6th Berths are under construction stage
  • Draft Depth of the channel availability is 14.00 Mts.
  • Vessel handling capacity is 50,000 DWT.
  • Cargo of 10.81 Million Tons was handled during 2010-11.
  • Ship to ship transport facility is available.

yeah some large power project i guess ... i'm not totally sure .... as a whole mana state lo unna construction companies anni koncham financial troubles lo uunay .. like SEW , Coastal Projects , GMR , Navayuga etc .....  i guess the only company thats doing decently good is Megha engineering
