if it in US - i did renew my passport 6 months after the expiry- I sent my docs to Atlanta. i guess it took 3 weeks .  there is some 3rd party handling all indian passports renewals and visas.. no need to worry about expiry time unless it is 1 year past.

Do send them 797, visa stamp and passport front and back scans. Next step: online passport form and other docs  Pampali.  Naku 1 week lo ipoyendhi. Na suggestion:  new passport lo change requests matram pettaku unless ni dhagara Indian address proof, Aadhar etc unte tappithe..
