I was in same situation last year. My ex-director asked me if I can help his startup become standard partner in AWS. I said yes because I love startups. Well, he also promised me some part time work in AWS, which didn't happen until now. We did 4 POCs but none of them went live.

One great thing about AWS is, you learn things beyond your domain, beyond IT and start seeing the things you normally don't see in your job. Like the costs, automation, latest Tech etc., Dec is the best month to do any certification because you don't get this much time in any month. And Ryan's course itself is like dumps. He focuses only the exam topics and half of his questions are similar to waht you get in exam.

ok this is helpful.... but if I have extra time I would prefer to spend with my kid.

The purpose of this post is explaining my experiences while preparing for an exam and giving general tips.

Before taking an exam, I had an over 1,5 years AWS experience, especially I worked with some of the core services( EC2, S3, VPC, IAM) a lot in a production level. However, I thought that it can’t be possible without studying materials; docs, faqs, videos or practice exam questions of AWS solution architect exam after searching in google, and trying to solve some sample questions. So, here are what I did before taking an exam:

I firstly bought the training videos of Ryan kroonenburg, the great AWS trainer, in Udemy, his training videos are available in his website, acloud.guru as well. So, in an approximately 1,5 months, I completed each AWS sol. arch. video in udemy.

I read and noted every topics about AWS sol. arch. in jayendrapatil.com. Every exam topics/services/ whitepapers/ faqs are highlighted in this website, and there are many sample questions as well.

I bought 7 exams from whizlabs.com to get used to practice AWS sol arch. exam.

So, after all these steps, finally I registered to an exam, and passed with a good grade.

The Exam;

It was a quick 80 mins and 60 questions test.

VPC, IAM, EC2(especially Autoscaling, Load Balancers, EBS..), S3 — the core services are still important and had lot of depth and count.

RDS, SQS, SNS, Cloudwatch,Route53,Kinesis are another important services that I saw many questions from them.

There are many new services questions: ECS, Lambda, CloudHSM.

There are many scenario questions about core services(VPC,IAM, EC2,S3) especially about High Availability, Scalability.

If you don’t have any idea about the AWS, then you can’t pass the AWS exam just preparing the practice questions. One should have a solid work experience to pass the exam. The reason is, most of the questions will be scenario based. Unless you have directly worked on the concept, you will not be able to answer it correctly. So here are my recommendations:

Recommendations;

Watch videos from udemy / acloud.guru / or etc.,

Read and note FAQs, docs from AWS or jayendrapatil.com .

Buy at least 1 set of practice exams from Braincertor Whizlabs

And more important, PRACTICE AWS services in an AWS console using free-tiers while watching videos from Udemy or etc..

Once practicing AWS services in an AWS console, it will provide you an experience, so you will understand scenario based questions easily and quickly produce solution in an exam.
