How do you know that injury was caused by him? As far as I see it so far, it's a case of he said she said. 

She needs to have more evidence than that, maybe his hair or other DNA samples on her body.

Maybe they had consensual rough sex and had a fallout after the sexual encounter. 

Which is perhaps why she's fabricating a story, if the assault indeed happened no one would have not called 911 right away.
