The camaraderie between Chinese is 10 times better than desis in the states. My cousin was working at this company in San Jose. Whenever he opens a browser to read some non-work related stuff (some interview questions, data structures, algorithms, hacker news, new technologies), his desi colleagues complain to the manager saying that this guy was not working. In another group at the same company, many Chinese work under a Chinese boss; these Chinese workers were encouraged to learn new stuff, even this stuff is not relevant to work. Three Chinese (all MS in EE from a no-name school, one from NPU as well) prepared leetcode questions, and gathered mandarin intelligence from 1.3 acres, got jobs at Google. Just a year of dedication, with hardly any tasks to do at their jobs.

Desi managers, senior desi people, desi uncles, full time desis--99% of them get jealous when some contract worker spends some time on learning stuff.

That guy was recruited by Chinese intelligence, which gave him a simple task in order to test him out. That task was to find background details of six Chinese Americans from intelius, spokeo, instacheckmate. That was it. This guy got busted since Feds busted another spy, who was in contact with this OPT 'spy'.  Defections are encouraged if there is something to gain. These are just some low level guys, doing piece meal work here and there.
