Ban TikTok App; High Court asks Centre

One of the most used apps, TikTok, is obsessive and we all know how entertaining it sometimes. It allows users to create and share videos with special effects and voice-overs. In India, nearly 54 million monthly users have been registered.

The Madras High Court has asked the centre to ban the famous Chinese app TikTok with a concern that the app is encouraging pornography. Apart from banning, the court also orders to prohibit any videos made using this app. The High Court said minors who are using TikTok are prone to the exposure to sexual predators and the petition was first filed by Madurai-based lawyer and social activist, Muthu Kumar.

The concern was that the app consists of pornography, cultural degradation, child abuse, suicides. The petition was filed to eradicate the problem of making children online victims by adding strangers. Post that, Justices N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar, have directed the central government to respond before the February 16.

A TikTok spokesman said that the company was committed to abiding by local laws and was waiting for the court's order copy. He also confirmed that the company will take appropriate action. "Maintaining a safe and positive in-app environment is our priority," he said.
