This is hard to believe, but it is true. Since times immemorial, a few people have considered themselves above the legal code of conduct and they have even ridiculed their fellow Indians. That being said, still there are some places in India where Indians are not allowed. Yes, you read that right. Surprisingly enough, these places are run by Indian owners and are open for foreign visitors and guests only. Here is a list of some infamous places in India that deny entry to Indians; their reasons are varied:

1. Red Lollipop Hostel, Chennai

It is an international standard hotel located in Chennai that does not entertain Indian travellers. Situated in the heart of the city, it is reserved for expats and entry is done with passport only. They claim to be one of the unique hotel in Chennai to serve first time visitors to India. They have “No Indian” policy, however, Indians having foreign passport might be allowed to stay at the hostel. It is given the pseudonym of ‘Highlands’ and serve customers possessing only foreign passport.

2. Free Kasol Café, Kasol

This place came into existence recently. This café is in Kasol village of Himachal, in Kullu district. This is yet another hotel in India where Indians are not allowed. It made into headlines when the manager of the café denied giving menu card to the guest of Indian origin, while the owner cheerfully greeted and served people from Israel. However, the manager later explained that he was in a bad mood. However, there have been various incidents where Indians were denied services.

3. “Foreigners Only” Beaches in Goa

Goa is an amazing holiday destination. This is a great place to relax. However, what might upset you is that there are certain beaches in Goa where only foreigners are allowed. This is because many restaurants and beach owners want to save their beachwear-clad foreigners from the curious and lusty stares of Indian locals. Among them, Anjuna Beach is one beach where you can hardly spot any Indians. Although this is not a legal restriction, the locals justify their racist behaviour by saying they are protecting the foreign guests from the lusty gaze of Indians for whom seeing women in swim suits is not a common sight.

4. Puducherry’s “Foreigners Only” Beaches

This is similar to that of the Goa stories and claims that owners do not allow Indians to save their foreign guests from unpleasant incidents. There are beaches, shacks, and restaurants that serve only foreigners and do not welcome Indians. They are reserved exclusively for the foreigners. They say that perennial lechers make it uncomfortable for the foreigners to enjoy their holiday and that is why they do not rent rooms to Indians.

5. Uno-In Hotel, Bengaluru

You will be glad to know that now this place is no more in operation. The place was shut by Greater Bangalore City Corporation in the year 2014 on the grounds of racial discrimination. This exclusive hotel in Bengaluru was set up in 2012 with the purpose to serve only Japanese people. The people of Indian origin filed complaint against the hotel for such discrimination. This was an initiative of Nippon Infrastructure Company to serve the increasing Japanese population in the city.

6. Some islands in Lakshadweep

This is alike for all Indians as well as foreigners. The Indians and foreigners too need permit to enter the few island groups of Lakshadweep. However, there are some islands where only foreigners can visit. Some of them are Agatti, Bangaram, and Kadmat. However, Indians can visit islands like Minicoy, and Amini. North Sentinel Island in Andaman

7. Broadlands Hotel, Chennai

This hotel came into the lime light when some Indians complained that they were denied a room in this hotel in 2010. They claimed that they allow booking a room only if one has a foreign passport.

8. North Sentinel island, Andaman

This place is alienated from the main island because of the Sentinelese tribes that live there and they do not permit any tourist or fisherman to enter the island. It is a part of the Andaman but tourists are not allowed to visit this place because of the indigenous tribes.

9. Sakura Ryokan Restaurant, Ahmedabad

This is a Japanese restaurant in Ahmedabad that doesn’t allow Indians. It is among those places in India where Indians are not allowed, and they serve only Japanese people. However, the owner of the place is of Indian origin and the reason behind this discrimination is justified with the fact that waitresses at the restaurant suffered from the constant ogling by the Indian guests. Therefore, the owner implemented this rule.

10. Russian Colony, Kundankulam

As per the claims and reports, the residential complex nearby Kundankulam Nuclear Power Project has a “Russian Colony” where Indians are not permitted to enter. This colony accommodates only Russian citizens working on the power project. Besides, it is self-sustaining with club houses, hotels, and houses, and other such things.

11. Norbulingka café, Dharamshala

This is a beautiful café providing scenic views of buildings, gardens, half, monasteries and gates. It is a well-maintained café with just the right ambience and atmosphere. But despite being so beautiful, it is another example where racism is practiced towards Indians. In fact, it denies entry to people who look even remotely Indians.

So, these were some of the infamous places in India where Indians are banned despite being against the legal code. Most such places justify restrictions on various grounds. Besides these, there are other places like Saser La, Dapsang, and China-occupied-Arunachal where people of Indian nationality are strictly barred to enter.

Hotes etc are private properties and justified.. but beaches are not justified, if Indians have no access to natural beauty in India, then it’s not India

I experienced Kasol Cafe...only Jews..!! Infact, there is nothing as such ‘Indians not allowed’ but everything is Jewish...memu is written in Jewish, food, the way they dress and even hotel name, parking space and directions, toilet, instructions etc everything will be in Jewish...Indian lopalki vellina kuda peddaga peekedi emi ledu..and they follow some rituals like prayers, etc...This place is also run by Jews...few years back Holocaust observation chesinaru, few Jews who escaped Germany and settled in Gujarat, vallu Kasol la prayer meets petinaru...and of course, weed tourism.

north sentinel island is restricted by the govt to keep those ppl away from civilization since if they come in contact with normal ppl they might die due weak immune system they say. So that’s an odd entry to the list I would say.
another interesting thing is that ppl who are from other states besides north eastern states are required to get inner permit to visit those states.
