HMO Vs PPO health Insurance

HMO is cheaper as you need referral from your primary care physician first before going to any specialist.

PPO lets you go to specialist directly and hence costly.

generally premiums and copays differ for both.

depends on your family health conditions. if you or wife or kids require frequent visits and expect surgeries , then PPO is better.

Note - pregnancy and delivery does not make much difference. generally you can choose your own doctor whether PPO or HMO for pregnancy. hope that helps

HMO is usually a smaller network than PPO , always opt for a PPO if you want to have more options for treatment

Even with a PPO network , finding a doctor you want can be quite complicated , now a days most insurers have good pre-treatment cost analysis tools so you can use them to find treatment that can be affordable to you

Also , as someone above mentioned HMO policies sometimes need referrals for specialists , this could be a hindrance

PPO is usually a bit costly too compared to HMO
