In 1980 they raised interest rates from 14%-20% which lead to a recession and that has been their learning from that backfire and never really dared to hike rates at a steep rate since then. Back then avg house cost was $80k with 80% funded by owner and 20% dependency on bank lending. now the avg house $370k, with 80% bank funded. US economy is a consumer driven economy and world’s largest. Japan deflationary pressure has been happening for a decade now and spiraling their economy while US and China are growing. It is bad for Japan economy as people are hoarding money and not spending as much.
