@sri_india do u mean 20% of current rate of 20% of 100%?

In 1980 they raised interest rates from 14%-20% which lead to a recession and that has been their learning from that backfire and never really dared to hike rates at a steep rate since then. Back then avg house cost was $80k with 80% funded by owner and 20% dependency on bank lending. now the avg house $370k, with 80% bank funded. The interest rates will never go that high because fed stands make same interest but by printing more money as everyone is invested into a home, the more the price of the home will compensate for interest reduction - either you pay 10% for $10 loan or 1% for $100, in the end fed is not losing

inflation is due to other factors also like supply chain issues etc, they haven’t got a clear picture yet. 6% is not bad. india has 14% inflation without any interest rates discounting.

interest rates automatically won’t reduce inflation when fed pumped $3 trillion in 1 year, that money has to be taken back to see meaningful sowdown.

US economy is a consumer driven economy and world’s largest. Japan deflationary pressure has been happening for a decade now and spiraling their economy while US and China are growing. It is bad for Japan economy as people are hoarding money and not spending as much. It is being seen as a failure on Japanese monetary policy for the last decade or so
