Jagan not to reshuffle cabinet this year?

Soon after the formation of the first cabinet in June 2019, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy indicated that the present term of the ministers would be only for two and a half years.

He told them categorically that there would be a complete overhaul of the state cabinet in December 2021, with the existing bunch of ministers being replaced by new faces.

However, he assured that a few performing ministers might be retained during the reshuffle.

Now with just six months left for the completion of their two-and-a-half-year term, the ministers in the Jagan Mohan Reddy cabinet started feeling insecure, as nobody would know whom the chief minister would retain and whom he would sack.

Some of the ministers like Botsa Satyanarayana, Adimulapu Suresh, K Kanna Babu, P Anil Kumar Yadav, Kodali Nani, Mekapati Gautam Reddy and Avanti Srinivas have become more active in their departmental activities, hitting the headlines more often, apparently to impress the boss.

But the remaining ministers seem to have resigned to their fate, thinking that they would have to lose their post anyway in another six months.

On the other hand, several aspirants for cabinet berths have started regularly coming to Tadepalli to get into the good books of Jagan, so that he would consider them in the next cabinet reshuffle.

However, Jagan is learnt to have suddenly come up with a surprising announcement during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday that he would not take up any changes in the present cabinet for another six months.

He reportedly told the ministers that he was aware of the fact that they could not do much in their respective departments due to Covid-19 pandemic, which had virtually stalled all the works for the last one year.

So, he would like to take up the cabinet reshuffle only in June 2022.

It was a big relief for the existing cabinet ministers, as they would continue at least for another six months.

But Jagan asserted that they would have to give up their posts at any cost in June 2022 and a new bunch of ministers would join the cabinet for a period of two years.

Apparently, Jagan is learnt to have got a study done on the performance of the ministers in the last two years and many of the ministers have failed to get good marks.

So, he wants to give them a chance to improve their performance in the next one year, sources said.
