Jagan not to budge on PRC, as employees hit streets

It appears Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is not going to budge on the implementation of the latest pay revision commission recommendations for the state government employees, come what may.

On Thursday, the state finance department issued instructions to all the district treasuries to pay salaries to the employees as per the latest government orders issued on PRC implementation, even as the employees announced that they would go on indefinite strike, opposing the GOs.

It clearly showed that the Jagan government has virtually shut the doors on the employees on making any changes in the GOs on the PRC and employees would get their revised pay in the month of February.

Angered over the government’s decision, thousands of teachers and employees, wearing black badges, took up the agitations at the district collectorates, demanding that the GOs are withdrawn.

Tense atmosphere is prevailing at all the district collectorates, as the employees and teachers boycotted their duties and staged demonstrations at the collectoraes. The police took many of the employees into custody and shifted them to the police stations.

Interestingly, the employees and teachers are angry with their own union leaders, who have failed to negotiate with the government to get a reasonable pay package.

According to reports, the unions, which have come under the umbrella of joint action committee, are likely to give strike notice to the government on Friday.

Yet, the chief minister reportedly told the officials not to succumb to any pressures.

“The pay revision has been done despite the financial constraints of the state government. We cannot go beyond that,” Jagan is learnt to have told the officials.
