That's the difference , DMK is a family party while TDP is a caste party 

While DMK has largely remained true to its core principles , TDP has no core principles after allying with congress and are still close to them to this day

Well that govt was worse than Congress or TDP at the time. The level of landgrabbbing was off the charts. Pedda koduku Alagiri was unofficial dictator of Madurai and South TN to some extent.
