Rama says he is just purifying vaali's intentions and mind by putting the baana into his heart and if he further wants to live he can bring him back to life. 

 

After hearing all the answers from Rama in his eternal voice, Vaali becomes purified and says that he can get many lives but he cannot get a death like this and it's his greatest fortune to die in the hands of a person like Rama and so chooses death.
