• Democrats never had full control of the House, Senate and WH in the last 20 years(at least).
• Its true that republicans fought against slavery.  But there were HUGE migrations  among the parties during early 1900's. As a result the sides have been switched at some point in our history. All the republicans states(Southern) fought for slavery and Democrats(mostly northern states) fought against it. Check for legitimate sources if you need more info on this.
