Not as much, actual ga 4 PM matches comparatively have less viewership than 8 PM games so they have made adjustments...Broadcasters erri vedavalu emi kaadu in timings they have the biggest say...

Viewers will/can choose between matches may be by the franchise which they support.

IPL to begin on April 7

The 2018 season of the IPL will begin on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with the final scheduled for May 27 at the same venue. Defending champions Mumbai Indians will play the tournament opener, and their opponent will be revealed when the IPL releases the match schedule this week.

Another significant decision taken by the IPL Governing Council on Monday was to change the start times for the matches. From this season on, afternoon matches will be begin at 5.30 pm, and night games will commence at 7 pm. Until last season, these matches began at 4 pm and 8 pm respectively. This means that the second innings of the first match and the first innings of the second will overlap on double-header days.

It is understood the shift in timings was agreed to by Star India, which in September bagged the global broadcast rights for the IPL for the next five years. "The timings were changed because the day matches were being played in peak summer-time heat," an IPL official said. "It (5.30 pm start) is a better time."

The IPL has also finalised the venues for the home matches for Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. Kings XI will play four of their seven home matches at their home base in Mohali and the remaining three in Indore. As for Royals, Jaipur remains the franchise's first-choice venue, but the IPL has decided to wait for the court hearing on January 24 at the Rajasthan High Court. The hearing concerns the unanimous adoption of the Lodha Committee recommendations by the Rajasthan Cricket Association, which is housed at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur.

ESPNcricnfo understands the IPL has already finalised Pune as the standby venue for Royals in case the court hearing drags on.

IPL 2018: Teams vs BCCI and Star Sports over newly-proposed match timings

IPL Governing Council had accepted broadcasters Star Sports’ request to push 4 PM matches to 5.30 PM and reschedule 8 PM games to 7 PM.
“The broadcaster has requested for change in timings. By and large the GC has accepted it. It gets too late in the night if the game starts at 8pm," said Rajeev Shukla after the IPL Governing Council meeting in New Delhi on Monday. (Photo: BCCI)

Mumbai: A day after Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla stated that the matches in the eleventh edition of the tournament are likely see change in the timings, it is reported that the IPL teams are not in favour of this change.

Shukla had said that the IPL Governing Council had accepted broadcasters Star Sports’ request to push the 4 PM matches to 5.30 PM and reschedule the 8 PM start of the games to 7 PM for the IPL 2018.

“The broadcaster has requested for change in timings. By and large the GC has accepted it. It gets too late in the night if the game starts at 8pm," said Shukla after the IPL Governing Council meeting in New Delhi on Monday.

However, the teams are reportedly not in favour of the proposed change in timings of the matches. Apparently, they are not happy with the fact that they, being one of the biggest stakeholders, were not taken into consideration as the decision was made.

"The franchises are not in agreement with this proposal and will take it up with the IPL. They are in fact quite not very happy that something as important as this hasn't even discussed with them," sources, who are familiar with the developments, were quoted as saying by Times of India.

One of the officials from the IPL Governing Council said that the broadcasters are keen for rescheduling the games to attract maximum eyeballs which will their ratings.

"Star Sports is of the view that the matches need to start early to ensure that the people in the interiors watch the action too. It will improve the ratings," said a Governing Council official.

Shukla, meanwhile, said that no final decision is made in connection with change in timings of the matches.

"The IPL Governing Council considered the request of the broadcaster to have a 7pm match. The final decision will be taken after the taking the views of the other stakeholders," concluded Shukla.
