Roy bats in nets, could make return against India

England have received a significant boost with news that Jason Roy is recovering well.

Roy had sustained a hamstring tear during the game against West Indies on June 14. But a second scan, carried out on Monday morning, showed the injury was much improved, boosting hopes he will be fit to play in the match against India on June 30.

While there is no chance of him playing against Australia on Tuesday, he was able to bat in the nets on Monday morning - the first time he has been able to do so since the incident - and will monitored on a daily basis with a view to him returning to the team for England's final two group games.

"Jason went for a scan this morning. It was all positive news, but he won't be fit for tomorrow. We'll monitor his progress in the week," Eoin Morgan said. "To put one game on it [his return] I don't think is sensible, let's just see how it goes."

England need to win at least one and perhaps two of their final three matches to ensure their progression to the semi-finals. While Roy has passed 50 five times in his six most recent ODI innings, 100 three times in his eight most recent, and has recorded the second-highest score (153 against Bangladesh) of the World Cup to date, his replacement, James Vince, has a top score of 51 in 10 ODIs and has scored 26 and 14 in his two innings in this tournament.

"It's Jason Roy, of course he's a big loss. He's an outstanding performer for us," Morgan said. "I'm confident we have the batting covered, James Vince is an extremely talented, gifted player. You can see that just watching him. We've every faith in him to go on and get a score at some stage."

Afg needs counter attack 5 overs before its too late...it will turn the game.. they have nothing to loose..unnecessarily building pressure now
