not my problem that you are ignorant of history or have a thin skin.

hinduism is brahminism. catch dasara_bullodu at his most vulnerable moment and ask him this question. he'll agree that brahmins tricked millions of people to believe they are hindus.

but ofcourse, its not a bad thing. if you think you are Hindu, you are one. and its cool to be one too. I have nothing against hindus. but calling it a 'way of life' is sort of pointless, as if the other religions are not ways of life.

as for a single domineering book in hinduism, its not possible, because hinduism is based on vedic religion mixed with cool new gods and stories. Its obvious that there won't be a single book. however if people insist, vedas are the most authentic books for Hindus. but they are to be weilded by only one particular section of the society. so what to do man.

you are hindu, but you don't have access to your books. what to do.

looks like except brahmins in this db, nobody really knows who a hindu is.

its not an accident brothers. read history of hinduism with an open mind (if you have one).

like jbourne said, if you live in/born in India you are Hindu. but that word has been politicized to such an extent that some groups refuse to touch it with a bargepole.

and suddenly it refers to only people who worship rama or krishna or the million gods accredited by our brahmin masters.

your loss bro. your loss.

your caste has probably a longer lineage of customs and traditions than this thing called 'Hinduism'. ofcourse you'd have lost all that because you want to get in with the hindu program.

but news flash dude, unless you are brahmin, you are probably not Hindu.

but ofcourse you are Hindu, because you want to be one. so you are. good for you. be a proud hindu.

welcome @uttermost uncle....

Hinduism is more spiritual and less religious.

Abrahamic religions are like MNCs propagating their religion, killing the competition, joining bonus like heaven and 72 virgins, if you leave religion you are punished by death. Following set of rules blindly etc.

Hinduism has evolved from 1000s of years and still surviving so it's hard to define. You can never get into contact with a brahmin and still be a hindu. Saying that"  brahmins forced this onto others and called Hinduism"  is utter bullshit. I'd rather use the word ignorance, ignorance with a hint of hatred and jealousy.

you have no idea what hinduism is. Hinduism is exactly the same as any abrahamic religion, and was propagated all over india in exactly similar ways.

ofcourse there were long periods of debates between different brahmins and buddhists to add some colour to the dull vedic religion, and those at the top were the missionaries of hindu religion.

it was called the bhakti movement.

honestly, teach your kids the truth man. it helps. you can still be a good hindu, and can still teach the truth of how hinduism came about.

don't lie that hinduism is special, when it just has a different history. even abrahamic religions have unique histories and didn't just rise out of the ground like a flash.

hinduism is like a linux distribution with a vedic kernel (brahmin part) and several local forks. abrahamic religion is like BSD os that had a very stringent review process before accepting local cultures directly into their kernel which is seamlessly conencted to the rest of the OS.

nothing more. all religions are the same man.

hinduism in its original vedic form was an extremely ritualistic religion, full of vedic hymns. that is what buddha rebeled against, while finally turning into another clone of vedic religion. lol.

it was never 'more' spiritual and less religious.

If you are talking of Indian philosophy schools, to claim Hinduism as more spiritual, even there you are wrong.

because the same logic applies to every religion. Islam in fact has an extremely popular offshoot like Sufism, which is ultra spiritual and also ultra dangerous (under the right circumstances) lol.
