hinduism is brahminism. that is the religion. since they don't want to share that title with others, they used the word 'hindu'.

i don't agree, it established way before any cast system man.  unlike other religions praying for one God, in Hinduism they pray nature, animals and what ever on the earth. this is the reason they have millions of Gods(again each object is a God in their view)

your caste has probably a longer lineage of customs and traditions than this thing called 'Hinduism'. ofcourse you'd have lost all that because you want to get in with the hindu program.

but news flash dude, unless you are brahmin, you are probably not Hindu.

but ofcourse you are Hindu, because you want to be one. so you are. good for you. be a proud hindu.

hinduism i know is way of life.... we dont follow any book like gita ..... we follow vedas upanishads anatya na ...

There no religion called Hinduism. Whatever you think that most people in India follow is called Sanatana Dharma.

Like the subsects in christianity (catholic, mormon etc),  Vasihnavism, Shaivisam, adhvaitha philosphy etc are subsects of Sanathana Dharma...

Understand that the underline of all Abrahamic  religions are the same but they are treated as different religions. In the same sense, Vaishnavam and Shaivam can be treated as different religons too. Since western people didn't understand the South Asian philosophies.   They call all conglomeration of all religions, philosophies in South Asia as Hinduism.

dude don't keep repeating that tired lie man.

ofcourse caste system was established by brahmins, but it was not given any name. the name came much later after buddhism grew at a rapid pace and replaced vedic rituals.

brahmins fought back against buddhism, both violently and through debate, and through bhakti movement, and reestablished vedic religion with lots of new cool features (like trimurti, dashavataaram etc).

hinduism didn't create a million gods. a 100 gods came together to create a narrative to sell to gullible public. and then hinduism adopted a million gods when the public asked them to fcuk off.

all religions are at some level a way of life man. its not specific to hinduism.

Hinduism is basically watered down brahminism from the vedic age mixed with some buddhist elements (like veggie stuff).

it was imposed on a wide population in India through the kings and his brahmin advisors, and later through the bhakti movement in the 17th century.

ofcourse buddhism was also imposed by kings who patronised it.

if hindus are proud that they have many gods, it is because the local gods were appropriated by brahmins and woven into tales to create a few myths. even brahmins have a complex history in that there were always new groups claiming to be brahmins in every era. that is how hindus got their diversity. it wasn't through some grand liberal design.

hinduism has in fact destroyed local cultures, but ofcourse we can put that down to hinduism being more appealing to the inhabitants (added with political patronage of the king and the upper class), compared to the local dieties. that's why its funny when hindus today cry about proselytization from other religions.

what did you think hindus did? they did exactly what christians are doing now to spread hinduism. they were in fact brutal to dalits and certain shudra castes while doing it too.

Criticizing and defining are two different things. TS asked to define and you are criticizing.

not my problem that you are ignorant of history or have a thin skin.

hinduism is brahminism. catch dasara_bullodu at his most vulnerable moment and ask him this question. he'll agree that brahmins tricked millions of people to believe they are hindus.

but ofcourse, its not a bad thing. if you think you are Hindu, you are one. and its cool to be one too. I have nothing against hindus. but calling it a 'way of life' is sort of pointless, as if the other religions are not ways of life.

as for a single domineering book in hinduism, its not possible, because hinduism is based on vedic religion mixed with cool new gods and stories. Its obvious that there won't be a single book. however if people insist, vedas are the most authentic books for Hindus. but they are to be weilded by only one particular section of the society. so what to do man.

you are hindu, but you don't have access to your books. what to do.
