this resembles more like Apple when it released its 1st iphone...so after 10 years is apple/Iphone the only smart phone selling?...not really

cars and smartphones are not the same. Tesla took 15 years and $20 billion funding to reach where it is today

one similarity you can borrow from smartphones is that whoever is going to compete against Tesla will be a new entrant..most of all the legacy automakers will shut shop like all legacy smartphone makers like Nokia, Blackberry, Motorola

I agree cars and smartphone are different...if tesla took 15 yrs its doesn't mean all the companies will take the same...you need to understand auto industry better...going forward auto industry can only survive by sharing the existing tech they have on hand...thats the reason most of the auto manufacturers are collaborating...if tech is the only thing going forward any tech giants like google or apple can provide the tech needed to auto makers...there is no point on automakers wasting time on it...this is what google is trying with Fiat and its working well...Battery tech is the biggest advantage of Tesla and if other automakers can get hands on it.. do a mass supply.. they can do better with their existing network

No, there will be other new companies too and Tesla wouldn’t be sitting still either. But it’s not an apples to apples comparison. Making cars is much more difficult than making a smart phone. Plus, Tesla is much ahead of it’s competitors.

Tesla has practically started from the scratch, they have invested a lot in time, research, vision, infrastructure etc.

For a competitor, say Ford Mustang, they don't need as much money as Tesla needed to roll out a Model 3 competitor...hence a lower pricing will be a practical advantage for Ford over Tesla..

Average revenue per million invested will be very low for Tesla. They may be futuristic, advance, extra ordinary and out of the world, but eventually everything comes down to the balance sheet.

VW, FIAT are also betting big on EV's and not just domestic cars but public transport systems too.

Tesla will have a honey moon period, before they start facing competition.

tesla makes very efficient motors, Tesla Model Y Standard Range undercuts the Mach-E Premium RWD by some $10,000, all while offering similar features and the exact same claimed EPA range because  it has a smaller 54 kWh battery versus the Ford’s 75.7 kWh pack that offers the same range. less weight and advanced motors helps tesla. additional 20 kwh costs few thousand dollars

charging network, self driving, fast charging are other factors.

traditional auto makers will never be able to compete for that reason. ford will be losing $10 per vehicle sold just to compete on pricing.

on a avg every auto maker has a $850 marketing expense on every vehicle sold and tesla doesn’t advertise. all the traditional auto makers cannot sell cars directly to customers like tesla and they have to forego 5-8% commission to the dealerships.

one is technology and other is business model that will not help traditional auto makers to be competitive
