We are honored to be helping patients fight COVID-19. There are early indications that plasma taken from those who have recovered (called COVID convalescent plasma) may help patients in critical condition. This is because those infected, and then recovered, now have antibodies against the virus. We are working closely with local hospitals and the County of ** to identify people who have recovered from the virus. Those recovered from COVID-19 can express interest in donating plasma here. Relatedly, we are partnering on several COVID-19 research initiatives.

 

We are now being called upon to help save lives in a new way – through the collection and distribution of convalescent plasma.   People recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies in their blood plasma (called convalescent plasma) that may help patients fight the virus. Hospitals are already reporting positive outcomes for their patients. To date, we have sent 45 units of COVID Convalescent Plasma (CCP) to support patients in critical condition.

Arvind Kejriwal was also talking about this today. Some +ve results. And the central Govt is going to go head with it. I think the problem would be related to Plasma donation.

The problem with that is, you need to select the immune cells specific to the virus and given to the other patients, which is difficult but can be done. The major deterrent however is that you will have same problem as you would with transplant immunology. That is, basically unless the host and donor are related, the difference in haplotype of the transplanted immune cells vs host immune cells, will make someone's immune system fight the transplanted immune cells and reject those cells even before the immune cells fighting the virus. It is easier to make a vaccine than transplanting.

ఈనాడు, హైదరాబాద్‌: రాష్ట్రంలో కరోనా బాధితులకు ప్లాస్మా థెరపీ అందించడానికి మార్గం సుగమమైంది. ఈ చికిత్స అనుమతి కోరుతూ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం చేసిన విజ్ఞప్తికి కేంద్ర సర్కారు పచ్చజెండా ఊపింది. ఆరోగ్యం విషమించిన కరోనా పాజిటివ్‌ బాధితుల్లో ఈ చికిత్సను వినియోగించనున్నారు. ఈ విషయాన్ని వైద్య ఆరోగ్యశాఖ మంత్రి ఈటల రాజేందర్‌ స్వయంగా వెల్లడించారు.

ఇప్పటికే ఈ చికిత్సను ప్రయోగాత్మకంగా అందించేందుకు కేరళకు కేంద్రం అనుమతించగా.. తాజాగా తెలంగాణకు కూడా ప్రయోగాత్మక చికిత్స అందించడంలో కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం నుంచి ప్రోత్సాహం లభించింది. గాంధీ ఆసుపత్రిలో ప్లాస్మా థెరపీని అందించడానికి ఇప్పటికే ప్రభుత్వం నైతిక విలువల కమిటీని నియమించింది. ఎవరికి ఈ చికిత్స చేయాలో ఈ కమిటీ నిర్ణయిస్తుంది. రాష్ట్రంలో ఇప్పటి వరకూ 291 మంది వైరస్‌ కోరల్లోంచి బయటపడి ఆరోగ్యవంతులుగా ఇళ్లకు వెళ్లారు. వీరిలో 20-40 ఏళ్లలోపు వయస్కుల్లో ఆరోగ్యవంతులను ఎంపిక చేస్తారని వైద్యవర్గాలు తెలిపాయి. ఈ తరహా చికిత్స అందించడానికి ప్రత్యేకంగా వైద్యనిపుణుల బృందాన్ని ఏర్పాటు చేయనున్నారు.  రాష్ట్రంలో కరోనా వైరస్‌(కొవిడ్‌ 19)తో మరో 13 కేసులు శుక్రవారం కొత్తగా నమోదయ్యాయి. గురువారం సాయంత్రం నుంచి శుక్రవారం సాయంత్రం వరకూ మొత్తం 540 నమూనాలను పరీక్షించగా.. వీటిల్లో జోగులాంబ గద్వాల జిల్లాలో అత్యధికంగా 9 కేసులు నమోదయ్యాయి. మిగిలినవి జీహెచ్‌ఎంసీలో 2, రంగారెడ్డి, నిర్మల్‌ జిల్లాల్లో ఒక్కొక్కటి చొప్పున నిర్ధారణ అయ్యాయి. దీంతో రాష్ట్రంలో కరోనా బాధితుల సంఖ్య 983కు పెరిగింది. శుక్రవారం మరో 29 మందిని ఆసుపత్రుల నుంచి డిశ్ఛార్జి చేయగా.. ఇప్పటివరకు రాష్ట్రంలో వైరస్‌ బారిన పడి కోలుకుని ఆరోగ్యవంతులుగా ఇళ్లకు వెళ్లిన వారి సంఖ్య 291కు చేరింది. ప్రస్తుతం 667 మంది కొవిడ్‌ బాధితులు ఆసుపత్రుల్లో ఉన్నారు. వీరిలో ఏడుగురు మాత్రమే ఐసీయూల్లో ఆక్సిజన్‌ సహాయంతో చికిత్స పొందుతున్నారు. మిగిలిన వారి ఆరోగ్యం నిలకడగా ఉందని మంత్రి ఈటల తెలిపారు.

కుటుంబాలకు కుటుంబాలే..
ఇప్పటివరకూ రాష్ట్రంలో నమోదైన పాజిటివ్‌ కేసుల్లో ఒక వ్యక్తి ద్వారా వారికి సంబంధించిన కుటుంబాల్లో అత్యధికులు వైరస్‌ బారిన పడినట్లు వైద్యవర్గాలు ధ్రువీకరిస్తున్నాయి. అత్యధిక కేసులు నమోదైన జీహెచ్‌ఎంసీ, సూర్యాపేట, జోగులాంబ గద్వాల, వికారాబాద్‌ జిల్లాల్లోనూ ఈ తరహాలో నిర్ధారించినవే ఎక్కువ. జీహెచ్‌ఎంసీ పరిధిలోని 44 కుటుంబాల్లో 268 మందికి పాజిటివ్‌ వచ్చింది. ఇక్కడ కుటుంబాల సంఖ్య తక్కువగా ఉన్నా.. ఒక్కో కుటుంబంలో సగటున ఆరేడుగురికి వ్యాపించింది. కొన్ని కుటుంబాల్లో 20-30 మందికి కూడా సోకింది. వికారాబాద్‌లో 14 బాధిత కుటుంబాలుంటే.. రోగుల సంఖ్య 38. గద్వాలలో 30 కుటుంబాలుంటే 45 మంది రోగులు. సూర్యాపేటలో 25 కుటుంబాలలో ఏకంగా 83 మందికి వ్యాప్తి చెందింది.

ఎక్కువ రోజులు ఆసుపత్రుల్లో..
మహమ్మారి బారినపడి దాదాపు నెల రోజులు గడుస్తున్నా ఇంకా ఆసుపత్రిలోనే చికిత్స పొందుతున్న వారు కూడా ఉన్నారు. 14 రోజుల గడువు తర్వాత చేసిన పరీక్షల్లో నెగిటివ్‌ రావాల్సి ఉండగా.. కొందరిలో ఇప్పటికీ పాజిటివ్‌గానే నమోదవుతోంది. ఇలా దాదాపు 200 మంది వరకూ ఆసుపత్రుల్లోనే ఉండాల్సి వస్తోందని వైద్యవర్గాలు తెలిపాయి. అనారోగ్య సమస్యలు తదితరాలు ఇందుకు కారణమని వైద్య నిపుణులు చెబుతున్నారు.

@Somedude does India need to be dependent on American/western/European research for something like this? I bet there are enough smart people over there who will do it.. even facilities wise we should be okay ..

I told this before, I didn't think they were using serum, I thought they were using cells. Injecting serum would yield the same result as injecting cytokines. I think they are doing a trial with injecting Interferon somewhere else.
