You should realize the fact that Bezos' net worth is tied to Amazon's stock and he doesn't actually have $200bn in his bank account.

No, I don't look down on anyone and i respect everyone irrespective of their profession, gender, sexual orientation, etc. I agree that people who had a secure, safe childhood are actually privileged in the sense that they don't have to worry about where their next meal comes from or where they are going to sleep for the next couple of days. I agree that who have a secure life hit a genetic jackpot. All I'm saying is that billionaires are not evil and they are really hard-working people who work for something they strongly believe in and took risks that most people wouldn't even take in their wildest dreams.

Corporations pay less taxes because they use loopholes in laws and they have to satisfy their shareholders and make money for them. If the laws were better they'd be paying their fair share because these corporations are legit. It's the laws that should be blamed, not the corporations.

Aa laws lo loopholes pettinchindhey corporations

He thinks that it's okay if Jeff Bezos is getting richer and richer while some people can't make ends meet. He thinks it's alright for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer since the rich worked their ass off to get where they are like Jeff Bezos, that privilege doesn't exist and people just use the opportunities they get, and your life is a result of the choices you make.

I need an argument that supports liberal views, I used healthcare as an example, if people deserve to get Universal healthcare since it is such a basic requirement, since people who don't have it become broke and end up in debt. He disagrees because it's required by the Government for everyone in the US to have a health insurance, and I said what if someone doesn't have insurance, and he says who's fault is that?

I need some arguments supporting socialism because I am unable to defend my point of view that some people have privilege. Any ideas?

why stop at health insurance, why not give free/subsidized food, car, home

now tell what is the incentive foe someone to rise up when they are being fed by the system

Bezos got richer by taking right risks not brought up by the system with freebies, getting tax breaks is entirely different topic, only leftists make such stupid arguments

aina good job @mods

I don't support socialism or communism. I just think privilege is real, and I was fortunate to be where I am. He disagrees because he just thinks I used the opportunities that are presented to me, and used them wisely.

we people did not loot the stores. Maybe u need to ask those people.

He asked for tax concessions and incentives for putting up his companies and warehouses. So who paid for those then?

Let me turn it around a little bit. For every tax concession he got, he created jobs and did his best in keeping the circle of economy going. On every sale he makes, he is paying up his tax as per the stipulated norms. He paid for building his warehouses, increased the footfall in Business for the place he is in. That would be a never ending argument. Capitalism is what keeps people happy. Without having people who generate wealth, can you distribute it? Also, without having people, can you make wealth. So, both have to go hand in hand. What needs to go away is doling out/expecting goodies for everyone. Healthcare, Education are everyone's right and Governments have to be responsible for it. Jeff Bezos or others are not to be blamed. It is the people that voted for Trump who was always less taxes that is to be blamed, right? Communism is a failed concept and kills the urge to produce. Socialism is a parasite and will kill the body it is leeching out of. So, both the concepts are failed models just out to kill everyone.

sure , their success may be well deserved but no one in the world deserves billions of dollars while poor people go hungry , go bankrupt for healthcare

read about the horror stories here on how people go bankrupt when there is a health emergency or

how they have to fight for a minimum wage etc

just because you are successful does not mean you should look down on others who are not successful , there is a reason why they are being dissed , these corps pay very less taxes , may be less than even you , all they do is take as much money they can and pay negligible taxes

Anybody who can earn a billion dollars deserves billion dollars as long as he did not skim it off someone through a Ponzi Scheme. It is not Jeff Bezo's fault that someone in a Ghetto chose to invest his time in drugs or not having a medical insurance. Each one had his choices to make and they made them. Privilege is real and you have to live with it. Someone somewhere in your bloodline made a smart/right choice and you have that privilege. If today you make a smart choice, your blood line might have the next Bezos sometime or your next in the kin might make wrong choices and bring themselves back to Zero. All the Dupont heirs that were worth billions are no where now. Silicon Valley is full of millionaires that are self made and come from modest beginnings. No one owes anyone else anything. Be it good or bad. You are responsible for your own actions.

Interesting u said people in ghetto chose drugs over insurance. But in reality, we see lot of indians working in high tech high paying jobs put up gofundme pages for supporting their medical bills.

Look at the socialism in Venezuela and India ... Corruption! Corruption! Corruption .. i am not supporting Capitalism here.. if you think socialism is better than i am sorry...  I believe the system should be something like mix of Capitalism, Socialism and Communism (i meant economic here not the political system) .... take all the best things from these and design a new one...

But for the first time since 2016, Amazon’s critics won’t be able to point to the tech giant’s nonexistent federal tax bill.

That’s because Amazon actually owed money to the federal government in 2019. After two straight years of paying $0 in U.S. federal income tax, Amazon was on the hook for a $162 million bill in 2019, the company said in an SEC filing on Thursday.

Of course, $162 million is still just a fraction of the $13.9 billion in pre-tax income Amazon reported for 2019 — roughly 1.2%, in fact. The federal corporate tax rate is 21%, but as in the past, Amazon likely employed various tax credits and deductions to reduce its federal tax bill. Amazon also reported $280.5 billion in total revenue in 2019.

Amazon has been the subject of much criticism over the fact that the company’s final federal tax burden has been particularly lacking in recent years. The company also came under fire for seeking huge tax incentives worth billions of dollars as part of its search for a second headquarters, or “HQ2,” in 2018.

In 2018, Amazon posted income of more than $11 billion, but the company paid $0 in federal taxes. In fact, thanks to tax credits and deductions, Amazon actually received a federal tax refund of $129 million. That was a year after Amazon received a $137 million refund from the federal government for 2017.
