Hefty hike in fee for traffic violations in Andhra Pradesh

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has virtually done a Mahesh Babu’s role in the superhit film “Bharat Ane Nenu,” by imposing a hefty increase in the compounding fee of various traffic and transport violations by citizens of the state.

As per the government order issued by the state government on Wednesday, the transport department slapped a uniform increase in the compounding fee on all vehicles across the board – from bikes to seven-seater vehicles to light motor vehicles like cars.

According to this GO, the fee ranges from a minimum of Rs 150 for an offence like lack of horn or bulb to as high as Rs 1 lakh for making alterations in the vehicle in violation of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Some of the hefty penalties for transport offences are: Rs 10,000 for driving while speaking on mobile phones, Rs 10,000 for repeating offence of over-speeding, Rs 10,000 for driving vehicles which do not have permits, Rs 20,000 for overloading of a vehicle.

Similarly, Rs 40,000 penalty, if a heavy vehicle does not stop when asked for checking its weight; Rs 10,000 for not giving way for emergency vehicles like ambulances and Rs 2,000 for unnecessary honking of horn.

While the government is expecting to raise its revenues through hefty fines, it also hopes that such a fine would bring in discipline among the vehicle drivers.

Violation lekapote no generation of income. Good only no? Why cant just ppl follow rules and not pay a penny. Someday traffic will be streamlined and ppl will get used to following rules.

Good in theory. If it ends up as income booster for traffic police and not making any income for Govt then I won't welcome it.

If ppl dont violate income aey undadu. Ppl should have discipline and should be determined not to pay to police. I mean even ppl who are walking adda diddam ga on road too.Starting lo kashtame but any change is difficult.

I am not talking about the rule.... I am talking about the amount of increase in fine ...
