Elected representatives in assembly and parliament have the power to bring down anyone .

What can a mayor + all the councillor in Hyderabad or any other city india do ? They cannot even pass the budget without state allocation

For the moment, I think this system works, and its okay. But I agree with you. elections to these local bodies is a farce and a waste of resources.

How would "share" of GST be counted among sales originating from a particular city? would you really want income to be taxed at multiple levels?

ofcourse, decentralization seems like its a good thing on the first look, but go down that path, and city will end up with majority of the debt and will go bankrupt soon.

GST share like 40state /40center/20 local would be a great start .

I am not asking for complete decentralisation , but gradual with strict oversight . Sad state of local bodies is even a pothole repair  has to be cleared by MLA or minister first .

Lol don't mistake me ,BJP is hell bent on centralising power and doing absolutely nothing .

Hyderabad can Ill afford BJP

Hyderabadis should not scoff at the idea of 'coalition govt' idea floated by one of their own - KCR. In fact, they should enthusiastically sell it wherever they can.

Not be intimidated by hindutva nutjobs that wants to paint those who are antiBJP as lacking in pragmatism.

Trs will get required majority..

bjp will easily get 20-25... anything above it is huge plus for bjp in future.

GST is a flop model. the only reason your share distribution is acceptable as an idea is because it would break the GST system.

and we can go back simple sales taxes collected by local bodies. or perhaps a VAT system that is managed by a collection of local bodies and not by the center, like European vat.

Indian economy cannot survive another shock , ippatikey thuglaq demo and shoddy GST implementation tho growth has stagnated .

Some of the positives are very good too , like removal of check post collection agents /ease of doing inter state commerce ,etc .Improving the current system with a goal/ target to remove or minimize entire indirect taxation is the best . (Maybe 50 years from now )

you are underestimating the Indian economy. It can survive 100 such shocks, precisely because it doesn't really want to grow at a scary pace.

most NRIs are just projecting their own fantasies about growth on to India. India voted for fcuking Modi. Nobody in their right mind who wants growth or competence, would vote for that clown fascist.

India will keep on growing despite Modi and his bungling, at its own pace. India is more concerned that social fabric of society (upper caste domination) is maintained, than any attempts to improve piffly growth.

there are pockets of economy that are exceptions to this, but they will be ultimately pulled down to the mediocrity of those that surround them.
