Polling Peaceful, Nimmagadda Jubilant!

Elections to 12 Municipal Corporations and 71 Municipalities/Nagar Panchayats were held on Wednesday without any major glitches, much to the relief of state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

Nimmagadda is so happy that he declared that the elections were held in a free and fair manner, barring a few stray incidents which he said were minor in nature.

“As was the case with the gram panchayat elections, there are not serious incidents necessitating repoll,” he said.

He said the voting percentage in the case of Municipal Corporations is 57.14 and in the case of Municipalities/Nagar Panchayats, it is 70.65 which is satisfactory.

The counting of voting will take place on March 14 and the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporations and Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of Municipalities/Nagar Panchayats will be conducted at the very earliest, he said.

He thanked all the officials and the police personnel for the restraint exercised to facilitate incident free poll.

He, however, said he would take action into the reports of any violence and irregularities, based on the reports submitted by concerned collectors and SPs/CPs.

In all, 581 divisions in 12 municipal corporations and 1,632 wards in 71 municipalities and nagar panchayats went to polls on Wednesday.

Out of these total number of wards and divisions, as many as 490 wards were elected unanimously.
