He should have done 3 parts. The story is thick and deep. Lot of people are saying Jayam Ravi is not the right choice for ArulMozhi varman.. but I think he's fine. because the real hero of the movie is Vandiya Thevan.. and that is played by Karthi. I think he's a much better fit. this was the time when Mahesh Babu was offered the role of ArulMozhi Varman - also a great choice. but Vijay refused to play second fiddle as friend to the king. Even his worst movies of today, have shades of the maniratnam from this film. This film left a deep impact on him. too bad, Maniratnam is not a political person. If he had atleast some respect for the dravidian movement, and the general anti union politics of TN even before dravidian movement, dating back to british raj itself, he could've written an even better film.
