Cases in Gujarat surge to 10,989

With 1,057 new patients detected, number of coroanvirus cases in Gujarat goes up to 10,989; 19 more  succumb to virus taking toll to 625, PTI quotes an official as saying.

Ahmedabad sees sharp spike in cases as 973 more test positive

 The COVID-19 case count in Ahmedabad rose to 8,144 on Saturday after detection of 973 new patients in the district, including 709 "super spreaders", PTI quotes a state Health official as saying. The toll due to COVID-19 mounted to 493 with 14 more patients succumbing to the viral infection, the official said. A total of 163 patients were discharged from hospitals in Ahmedabad, taking the total number of the recovered cases to 2,545.

Confirmed cases in Maharashtra climb to 30,706

 
1606 new cases and 67 deaths reported today, taking total number of cases to 30,706, of which 22,479 are active cases. Death toll stands at 1135.  524 people have been discharged after recovery, taking the total number of those cured to  7088, according to the Maharashtra health department.

Mumbai count up by 884, 41 deaths reported

Mumbai records 884 new COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths,  taking total case count to 18,396 and fatalities to 696, PTI quotes the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as saying.

Global toll crosses 3.06 lakh

 
More than 4.56 million people have been reported to have been infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 3,06,221 have died, according to a Reuters tally. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

Uttar Pradesh records highest single-day spike with 203 new cases 

 As many as 203 fresh cases have been reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours taking the total tally to 4,258, reports News18.The new cases have been reported in Merrut, Rampur and Saharanpur districts.

Five test positive in Goa

The number of COVID-19 cases in  Goa reached 13 after five people tested positive for novel corona virus on Saturday, a health official said. The five included a man who was part of a group of 1,000 workers brought to the state by the Goa State Industries Association to resume economic activities here after easing of lock down restrictions, he added.

India reports highest ever spike in cases with 4987 new cases - tally at 90,927

India reported the highest ever spike of 4,987 corona virus cases in the last 24 hours. The total cases now stand at 90,927, including 2,872 deaths and 34,109 recoveries.

Additionally, 120 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

1,257 of 1,946 cases cured in Punjab

As many as 1,257 persons tested positive for corona virus have been cured, of which 952 were discharged on Saturday, the Punjab government announced. Most of these patients were Sikh pilgrims who had returned from Maharashtra's Nanded. The state has reported 1,946 cases so far.

50,613 persons have been tested so far,out of which 46,028 are found negative, the government said.

92 tested positive in Indore, total at 2,470

The number of confirmed corona virus cases in Indore district rose to 2,470 after 92 persons were tested positive on Saturday. The toll now stands at 100.

54 more CRPF personnel discharged after recovery

54 more personnel of the 31st Battalion of the CRPF have been discharged from Mandoli quarantine centre in Delhi as all of them recovered and tested negative for the viral infection, reports India Today. They have been further kept at a unit for quarantine as per protocol. There are a total of 174 active cases in the CRPF, while 116  of its personnel  have recovered and one succumbed to the disease. A total of 291 cases have been reported among the force till date.

Maharashtra extends lockdown till 31 May

Maharashtra, with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, has decided to extend the lockdown till 31 May, reports PTI.

After Punjab, Mizoram and Telangana, Maharashtra has become the latest state to extend restrictions. The state has registered 30,706 cases and 1,135 deaths.
