Kerala reports 14 new cases

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that 14 more persons had tested positive for the novel corona virus in Kerala, taking the number of active cases to 101.

Lock down extended in Tamil Nadu till May 31, public transport to resume in 25 districts

The COVID-19 lock down was on Sunday extended till May 31 in Tamil Nadu by Chief Minister K Palaniswami who announced new relaxations such as resumption of public transportation in 25 districts after a hiatus of nearly two months. In 12 other districts, including Chennai, there will be no change in the curbs and will continue as they existed during the third phase of lock down, set to end on Sunday, he added. Citing consultations with top officials, public health and medical experts, he said the lock down is extended till May 31 and the curbs including bar on functioning of educational institutions, public entry into religious places and relaxations already in force will continue throughout the state. Palaniswami announced new relaxation in curbs for 25 districts, including Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal and Karur, where people could avail government and private bus transportation for commute within the district and they do not need "TN e-pass," (permission for travel), he said. Effective March 24 evening, public transport ceased to operate in the state as part of lock down measures. (PTI)

Ministry of Home Affairs to issue Lock down 4.0 guidelines today

The lock down was first imposed for 21 days starting March 25 and then extended on April 15 and later on May 4. The lock down 3.0 ends today. While some states have suggested to the Centre to extend the lock down, most want to decide on zones and restrictions when the third phase of the lock down ends.

 

New MHA guidelines to be based on suggestions made by chief ministers of all states

The new guidelines will be based on the suggestions made by chief ministers of all the states to the home ministry last week. “Based on the suggestions by states, information related to lock down 4 will be given to you before 18th May. We will fight corona and we will move forward,” the Prime Minister had said, adding that “we have to live with corona virus for some time.”

The 54-day curfew in India, owing to the rising number of corona virus cases across the country, was first imposed for 21 days starting March 25 and then extended from April 15 and May 4.

With 55 new cases, total in Karnataka rises to 1,147

Karnataka on Sunday reported 55 new corona virus cases pushing the total number of such infections in the state to 1,147. A total of 37 persons have died due to the disease while one person died due to non-COVID causes, said the state health department in the evening bulletin. 509 persons have been discharged so far and the number of active cases stands at 600.

Bihar reports 58 new cases

 
58 new cases were reported in Bihar today, of which 56 are from Patna. The total number of cases in the state climbs to1,251, ANI quotes Bihar Principal Health Secretary Sanjay Kumar as saying.

COVID-19 toll in Jammu and Kashmir mounts to 13

 
 A 29-year-old woman, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died in Srinagar on Sunday, raising the death toll to 13 in Jammu and Kashmir, PTI quotes officials as saying. The woman from Habba Kadal area of Srinagar died in the afternoon at CD Hospital, nodal officer COVID-19, GMC Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan said.He said the woman was previously operated in SMHS Hospital here by ENT surgeons for Ludwig's angina (submandibular abscess) and mediastinitis and had septic shock. "She was shifted to Surgical ICU there and tested positive for COVID-19. She was taken to CD Hospital two days back where she died today," Khan said. With her death, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the Union Territory has risen to 13.

Dharavi reports 44 new cases

 
44 more Covid-19 cases have been reported in the Dharavi area of Mumbai, taking the total number of cases in the area to 1,242, including 56 deaths, ANI quotes the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as saying.

Delhi govt to announce detailed plan tomorrow: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that a detailed plan for Delhi based on the Centre's guidelines will be announced tomorrow. "Centre's guidelines are largely in line with the proposal sent by Delhi govt based on suggestions of lakhs of Delhiites. We have used lockdown period to prepare our healthcare system if corona cases increase but it is now time to relax the restrictions to some extent," he said.

Delhi Metro to remain closed till 31 May

In light of the extension of lock down issued by the government, metro services will remain closed for commuters till May 31. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) helpline services '155370' will also not be available.

Case count in Punjab climbs to 1,964

18 new  positive cases have been reported today in Punjab, taking the total positive cases to 1964. Total active cases in state rise to 536. 1366 people have been cured while 35 have died, ANI quotes the state health department as saying.

MHA asks employers to ensure Aarogya Sety app is installed

 
With a view to ensuring safety in offices and workplaces, MHA has asked employers to ensure that Aarogya Setu app is installed by all employees having compatible mobile phones. District authorities have also been asked to advise individuals to install the Aarogya Setu application and regularly update their health status on the app.

Confirmed cases in Maharashtra cross 33,000

Maharashtra COVID-19 tally rises to 33,053 after 2,347 new cases recorded; death toll  climbs to 1198 after death of 63 patients, reports PTI.

 

1,571 cases, 38 deaths reported in past 24 hours in Mumbai


According to the BMC's figures released on Sunday evening, 1,571 COVID-19 cases and 38 deaths were reported in Mumbai on Sunday. The total number of cases in the city is now at 19967, including 5012 recovered/discharged and 734 deaths.
