Navy Week celebrations, Naval ships open to visitors from today

VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of Navy Week celebrations, a few ships of the Eastern fleet will be open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm from November 20-23, 2014. School children in uniform with their school ID card and accompanied by school staff will be allowed to visit the ships on Thursday and Friday, a release issued by ENC said. On Saturday and Sunday, the ships will allow entry to the general public, but only Indian nationals, after they produce proper photo identification like Aadhaar card, PAN card, school ID card, voter ID card, and driving license, among others.
The entry point for visiting the ships will be Pallava Gate near Satavahana Bus Stop (Pipeline Junction), Naval Dockyard, and the ENC release said. The ENC authorities have advised the visitors not to carry any baggage, handbags, briefcase, cameras, or electronic storage devices, including mobile phones with camera, while entering the Naval Dockyard.

Congratulating the people of Visakhapatnam for their ‘steely’ resolve in overcoming the major setback to life caused by Cyclone Hudhud, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu promised to rebuild the city into a modern one that would be the most favoured destination for investors and employees alike.

Addressing a gathering at the MVP Colony after planting a sapling there on Monday to launch the ‘Rejuvenating Vizag’ campaign, he said nature had blessed the city with a wonderful topography and sought people’s cooperation in making it the most sought after destination. He also launched a portal, developed by Pheonix IT Solutions, for mapping the planted saplings and tracking their growth.

The city would be rebuilt to make it more resilient and cyclone proof, all measures would be taken to help the city bounce back within hours of being hit by a cyclone, he promised. Focus would be on cyclone resilience infrastructure like underground power cables and service ducts for telephone and other cables.

New Urban Development Authority

He said he would be the chairman of the new Urban Development Authority to be formed for the city development and take up its development in phases. Promising to regularly visit the city, he said he would constantly monitor the parameters like pollution and ensure that the City develops on planned lines.

Recalling that Indigo had signed an MoU with the State Government to make Visakhapatnam its hub he said that during his recent visit to Singapore SilkAir officials told him that they were planning more flights from here and to other destinations.

Urging the workers to focus on improving the productivity of the enterprises they are working in, he assured them that he would take the responsibility to ensure that they get paid proper wages.

Cabinet Ministers Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Palle Raghunadha Reddy, Ravella Kishore Babu, Kimidi Mrinalini, P Narayana and Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam MP Khambampati Haribabu, Visakha East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, District Collector N Yuvaraj, Joint Collector Pravin Kumar, GVMC Commissioner M Janaki and other officials were present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to host a lunch for his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials at Kailasagiri after reviewing the restoration works there. In the evening after lighting ‘Rejuvenating Vizag’ lamp and unveiling a pylon, he would felicitate the officials who worked hard to restore normalcy in the city after being hit by Cyclone Hudhud.

Navy conducts free medical camp at Atchyutapuram

A free medical camp was organised at Integrated Vikalangula Ashram Pathshala Atchutapuram by INHS Kalyani on Sunday.

The camp, held as a part of outreach programme under the aegis of Eastern Naval Command and the Navy Wives Welfare Association (Eastern Region), was inaugurated by Command Medical Officer, Eastern Naval Command Surgeon Rear Admiral A.A. Pawar.

The medical camp covered the fields of Paediatrics, Dermatology, Dental, Ophthalmology, general OPD and on-the-spot laboratory investigations. On the sidelines of the medical camp, personnel from INS Dega white-washed the classrooms, cleaned the surrounding area and provided special lunch for the children. Guest of honour Vandana Pawar, along with senior members and ladies of the Arogya wing of the NWWA that looks after matters of physical and mental health, actively participated in the camp.

There was an overwhelming response to the camp wherein about 800 persons were screened by the specialists. Free medicines were distributed to the students and other participants. Secretary of Mandala Vikalangula Sankshema Sangham (MVSS) Pathshala, Atchutapuram P.S.T. Patnaik expressed his gratitude to the Navy for the humanitarian effort.

INHS Kalyani, a premier multispeciality hospital of the Navy, has recently received government approval for upgradation to a 600 bedded superspeciality hospital.

Go-Karting kick-starts in city

Visakhapatnam hosted the 11th Tyre FMSCI National Rotax Max Karting Championship 2014. The event kick started with the prelims on Saturday Go-Karting club located at Mangammaripeta in city and the finals of the championship  will be held on Sunday.

Terms from across the country are participate in the championship The track located on the city`s outskirts and hosted the mega event for the first time, proved rather bumpy and very physical, but the attributes only added to the challenge.

Kolhapur`s Chittesh Mondody and Bengaluru lads Kush Malini and Yash Aradhya set the V-I Track alight by dominating the heats to take pole positions in the fifth and concluding round of the National Karting Championship on Saturday Aradhya of MECO Racing, heading the Micro Max Leaderboard, put in a fine performance to win both the Heats and quality for pole position ahead of fellow Bengalureans and team mates Arjun S. Nair and Paul Francis.

Mandody (Mohite`s Racing) bying tied third in the Senior Max category championship all but destroyued the field to win both the heats in a commanding fashion to qualify for pole position. Occupying the second spot behind Mandody in Sunda`s pre-final will be compionship leader Ameya Bafna (Rayo Racing) from Mumbai while Kolhapur`s Dhruv Mohite (Mohite`s Racing) will start third.

Visakhapatnam: Guizhou Federation of Industry and Commerce (China) Vice-President Zhang Zhao, expressed willingness to develop industrial clusters in Andhra Pradesh. “We  are planning to develop industrial cluster in the Andhra Pradesh and if our plans materialise in the state we want to take Gitam University cooperation  for technical manpower and IT support” he said.

He visited Gitam University along with his 10-member delegation comprising different industrial sectors like port projects, real estate business development, communications planning survey & design electric companies here on Friday.

While addressing the University officials, the vice-president informed that they are in the work of identifying the probable industrial cluster in Andhra Pradesh and also held discussions with state Government.

He stressed the need of economic communication between the countries “We must understand each other particularly economic and cultural backgrounds to go further” he said.

Mr. Zhao had shown interest to start incubation center in Visakhapatnam adding China`s hardware kknowledge
