Srinivas's murder may not be a hate crime technically speaking

I was reading the shooter's confession in the court on Monday and a few things came to my mind

1) The shooter thought that the victims were Iranian not Indian

Which means that when he questioned them and asked them where they came from had they informed him and told him they were Indians not Iranians he might have not messed around with them. But then one of them decided to call the manager which might have made the shooter think they are actually Iranian.

2) Do Iranians deserve this fate?

Absolutely not. But then you can't deny that a lot of people are up in arms about the recent US-Iran trade relations and lifting of the trade blockade on Iran by Obama's administration. In a republican state like Kansas, assuming the shooter was also republican he might have been miffed at Iran and it's policies which is why they were supportive of Trump's ban on people from Iran.

The shooter's ego got hurt that two brown people complained against him in the bar and manager has denied entry, with this ego must have hurled and in that frustration, pressing the trigger is all what he would do ...

This is nothing new..These things have been happening, happened in the past and will happen in future too and all this furore is because of Trump's presidency and media backlash against Trump or else, It would have been another incident.

You can't control neither stop such type of crimes. Laws can only punish these individuals but cannot stop people from doing so.

So many people showing unnecessary sympathy and have been demanding things like protection,Justice, rights, etc. Silly people, what people expecting is a virtual reality but not in real reality. Srinivas is not the person neither he is going to be the last person.

So rather than a race based shooting I think this is more so something that happened because

1) The shooter thought they were Iranians and since the sentiment is against Iranians right now he was merely trying to find out what they were doing there

2) The victims instead of trying to reason with him and trying to get rid of his ignorance, tried to act hostile and get him thrown out of the bar.

3) In a fit of rage he assumed that the Iranians got him thrown out of a bar in his "own" country and so took the violent route.

Technically it can't be classified as racism against Indians at all, it was a case of mistaken identity.

I don't think he deserves the death penalty. Lifer yes but not death.

Exactly, he got miffed that he gets thrown out of a bar in his own nation whereas two Iranians( as per his thinking) who are perceived as enemies of the US aren't, that was the reason for his rage.

That's how the misconception of hate crime happens in USA...out of frustration and ego.

and this hate crime is a myth. None of the hate crimes have happened as planned murders, all have been accidental murders and instant murders but not a planned ones.

They are already offering protection, they arrested the culprit in such a quick time.

If Americans were really racist, would the bartender really have called the police and tipped them off about this dude when he was sitting at the Applebee's? What if he had decided to escape to Mexico the next day via the road, would they ever have caught up with him?
