An elbow injury will keep David Warner out of Sylhet Sixers' BPL campaign from January 21, according to Cricket Australia. Warner will return to Australia where he is likely to need six weeks to recover from the injury.

"David has reported some pain in his right elbow. He will return to Australia on January 21 to be assessed, but is expected to play in the remaining BPL matches until his return. We will have a clearer understanding of the extent of the injury once he has been assessed," a CA spokesperson said.

Warner, who is the Sixers captain, will play two more matches for them, on January 18 and 19, before flying back home which will make him miss their last five league games. It will be a big blow for Sixers as Warner has been their second-highest run-scorer so far and they are placed second from bottom on the points table. Against defending champions Rangpur Riders on Wednesday night, Warner had also batted right-handed for three deliveries during his 36-ball 61 against Chris Gayle, hitting him for 6, 4 and 4.

Warner follows Steven Smith back to Australia after the Comilla Victorians captain was also ruled out due to an elbow injury. Unlike Smith, whose international return may be delayed because of his elbow surgery, Warner could still be on track to represent Australia as soon as his ban for ball-tampering finishes on March 28. Australia will take on Pakistan around that time in a one-day series which will potentially clash with the IPL, which will begin on March 23.

Doubt the Participation of Warner in IPL due to National duties.... Ee time lo don't think so he will look to IPL over national duty.

Could be a blow for SRH

Injured David Warner to undergo elbow surgery; IPL 2019 participation, Australia return not under threat

Australian cricketer David Warner is set to undergo elbow surgery after an injury he sustained in the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League during a fixture between Sylhet Sixers and Rangpur Raiders.

Having scored 6,4,4 while batting right-handed in the recent Bangladesh Premier League encounter between Sylhet Sixers and Rangpur Raiders, Australian cricketer David Warner is set to leave the tournament midway and head back home to undergo surgery on the elbow injury he sustained in the tournament. Warner looked in top form as he scored 61 runs off 36 balls for the Sixers as they defeated the Riders by 27 runs on Wednesday.

While Warner's franchise is yet to confirm the extent of injury to the left-handed opening batsman, a report in Fox Sports Australia claims that the injury will keep the tainted cricketer out of action for a period of 1 month. This means that he is out of the current BPL campaign but would be able to participate in the Indian Premier League season 12, unlike his former skipper Steve Smith, who is out with an elbow injury too but for a longer period.

"David has reported some pain in his right elbow. He will return to Australia on January 21 to be assessed, but is expected to play in the remaining BPL matches until his return. We will have a clearer understanding of the extent of the injury once he has been assessed," a Cricket Australia spokesperson said on Thursday.

Warner's case for Australia's ICC World Cup squad also remains clear for now, although the injury will rob him off match practice that he will need ahead of the showpiece event in England. The ball-tampering ban for both Smith and Warner will be concluded on March 29, making them eligible for selection in the Aussie team for all the assignments thereafter.

Smith, meanwhile, is set to be in a brace for a period of six weeks, having undergone elbow surgery. Afterwards, he will begin the rehabilitation process to put his case forward for a return in the Australian team for the World Cup.

Australia haven't been at their best in the absence of Warner and Smith. Under the captaincy of Aaron Finch in the limited overs fixtures, the team managed to draw the T20I series against India 1-1 and presently are level with the same margin in the ODI series against Virat Kohli's men, with the final match yet to be played. The duo's return in the team for the World Cup will be crucial for Australia as they look to defend the title they won back in 2015.

IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals owners looking to sell off 50% franchise stake in a bid to boost finances

With the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just months away from getting underway, the owners of Rajasthan Royals have decided to sell 50% of their stakes of the franchise for a financial boost. The owners have already approached some key BCCI officials regarding the sale of the stakes and are looking for a suitable bidder.

Rajasthan Royals are one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League having won the inaugural edition of the tournament. The Royals won the title in2008 season under the captai9ncy of Shane Warne but have since failed to lift the trophy once again. The Royals brand took a hit when the franchise along with Chennai Super Kings were banned for two years in a spot-fixing case.

However, the franchise owners are keen on getting on board a new co-owner and further boost the finances involved. Currently, the principal owner of Rajasthan Royals is Manoj Badle.

"Yes, Rajasthan Royals are selling a major part of their stakes and the highest bidder will be getting it. What we have heard is that it is around fifty percent and some of the biggest business houses in the country are apparently interested in buying stakes," a senior BCCI official privy to the development told was quoted as saying by PTI.

According to a PTI report, Sanjeev Goenka, a former IPL franchise owner and the owner of ATK in the Indian Super League is one of the leading contenders to buy stakes in Rajasthan Royals. Goenka was the owner of the Rising Pune Supergiants, who played for two seasons in the IPL when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings were banned. RPSG under Steve Smith's captaincy in their second season finished as runners-up after losing in the final against Mumbai Indians.

"Mr Goenka has always been interested in coming back after he had a fairly good but short stint in the IPL. His team made it to the finals in one of the years. Let's wait and watch how it all pans out," the official said.

Rajasthan Royals reached the playoffs last year under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane but got ousted after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders. The franchise received a major boost ahead of the new season as Steve Smith is likely to make a comeback after missing last season due to ban over the Sandpaper Gate.
