Kool_SRG Posted June 26, 2020 Author Report Share Posted June 26, 2020 India sees over 17,000 new cases in 24 hours, death toll crosses 15,000-mark Highest single-day spike of 17,296 new Covid-19 positive cases in India in the last 24 hours on Friday pushed country's corona virus tally to 4,90,401. According to the latest data by the Union Health Ministry, the total cases include 1,89,463 active cases, while 2,85,637 have recovered. The death toll has, meanwhile, climbed to 15,301. More than 36,000 new US cases were recorded on Wednesday, a few hundred shy of the record 36,426 on April 24. Reporting record rises in Covid cases in the US this week were Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wyoming. The governor of Texas has, meanwhile, temporarily halted the state's reopening as Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations surged. Texas, which has been at the forefront of efforts to reopen devastated economies shut down in the face of the corona virus pandemic, has seen one of the biggest jumps in new cases, reporting more than 6,000 in a single day on Monday. This is the highest daily rise in cases so far. The toll is up to 16,095, with 410 more deaths reported. The reported active COVID-19 cases in India now stand at 2,03,051, with as many as 3,09,712 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far, the Union Health Ministry has said in its latest update. The figure is roughly double the number of severe influenza illnesses recorded annually, according to the World Health Organization. The milestone will come as many hard-hit countries are easing lock downs while making extensive alterations to work and social life that could last for a year or more until a vaccine is available. Global COVID-19 cases stand at 99.8 lakh Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the world stand at 99.8 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University CSSE. This figure includes COVID-19 patients who have recovered and the overall global death toll which stands at 4.9 lakh. With over 25.2 lakh reported cases till date, the United States is the worst-affected country in the world. The US is followed by Brazil, Russia, India and the United Kingdom.
