India reports 22,752 new cases and 482 deaths in past 24 hours as total rises to 7.42 lakh

India’s coronavirus total rose to 7,42,417, with 22,752 new cases in 24 hours reported on Wednesday morning. The toll increases by 482 to 20,642. More than 4.56 lakh people have recovered.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu remain worst-hit

With 2,17,121 confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,18,594) and Delhi (1,02,831).

Over 2.6 lakh samples tested yesterday, says ICMR

A total of 1,04,73,771 samples tested for COVID19 till date. Of these, 2,62,679 samples were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

US reports more than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases in single day

The United States reported more than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the biggest increase ever reported by a country in a single day, according to a Reuters tally.

The United States faces a bleak summer with record-breaking infections and many states forced to close parts of the economy again, leaving some workers without a paycheck.

Global corona virus cases rise to more than 1.2 crore

Global corona virus cases exceeded 12 million on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, as evidence mounts of the airborne spread of the disease that has killed more than half a million people in seven months.

The number of cases is triple that of severe influenza illnesses recorded annually, according to the World Health Organization.

As many as 2,67,061 samples were tested on Wednesday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research. A total of 1,07,40,832 samples have been tested so far.

India’s corona virus tally rises to 7,67,296, with 24,879 new cases in 24 hours. This is the highest single-day surge in fresh infections. The toll is up by 487 to 21,129. More than 4.76 lakh people have recovered.

Bolivia's president tests COVID-19 positive

Bolivia's interim President Jeanine Anez announced on Thursday that she has tested positive for corona virus. "I've tested positive for COVID-19, I'm fine, I will work from isolation," she tweeted.

The 53-year-old said in a video on Twitter that she would remain in quarantine for 14 days before taking another test.

Anez becomes the second South American president in a matter of days to contract the corona virus after Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro announced his positive result on Tuesday.

India reported a new single-day high of 24,879 COVID-19 cases

India reported a new single-day high of 24,879 COVID-19 cases taking the caseload to 7,67,296 on Thursday, with Maharashtra, Delhi and five other states contributing to around 75 percent of the new cases, according to the Union health ministry data.

The toll from the virus reached 21,129 with 487 new fatalities, the updated data at 8 am showed.
