China reports 15 new COVID-19 cases

China has reported 15 new corona virus cases, including 11 confirmed imported infections, the health authority said on Thursday, reported PTI

Over 52 lakh COVID-19 samples tested till 9 am today: ICMR

As many as 52,13,140 COVID-19 samples have been tested till 9 am on Thursday, the  Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said. In the past 24 hours, 1,51,808 samples have been tested, the medical research body said.

India reported the highest single-day spike of 9,996 fresh COVID-19 cases and 357 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the health ministry on Thursday. 

More than 2.86 lakh confirmed cases in India

After 9,996 more individuals tested positive for the novel corona virus across the country, the total number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,86,579 on Thursday, including 1,37,448 active cases, said the health ministry.

More than 2.86 lakh confirmed cases in India

After 9,996 more individuals tested positive for the novel corona virus across the country, the total number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,86,579 on Thursday, including 1,37,448 active cases, said the health ministry. 

India's overall recoveries exceed active cases for second day in a row

For second day in a row, the number of recoveries in India have exceeded the active COVID-19 cases after 1,41,029 patients were cured of the infectious disease as of Thursday. While, there are 1,37,448 number of active cases across the country. 

This takes the recovery rate to 49.2 percent.

India inches closer to 4th worst COVID-affected spot

The number of COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 2.76-lakh mark on Wednesday, and a third of them have been reported in the first 10 days this month.

The country has been recording close to 10,000 cases every day since 1 June. This means that nearly 90,000 cases have been added in the nationwide tally from 1 to 10 June.

With the current surge in cases, India is on course to overtake Britain in the global list of countries worst affected by the pandemic and expected to reach the three lakh-mark by this week. The United Kingdom, which is the fourth worst-hit nation, has over 2.91 lakh cases.

Large sections of population still vulnerable to COVID-19, says ICMR

ICMR DG Professor Bhargava on Thursday said, "Data shows large sections of population still vulnerable so we need to protect high risk groups, maintain social distancing hand hygiene etc. States cannot lower guard need to maintain surveillance and containment."

Meanwhile, NITI Aayog's Dr VK Paul said, "This is the largest immunological survey in the world on #COVID19. This finetunes our understanding. These are results till 20 April. To keep the pandemic at these levels is a very big achievement; also fortunately mortality is very low."

 

India 'definitely' not in community spread stage, says ICMR

The ICMR on Thursday said that India was "definitely" not in the community transmission stage.

"For such a large country, prevalence is so low, less than 1 percent in smaller districts slightly higher in cities and containment zones. So India is definitely not in community transmission stage. We have ramped up testing and we have very calibrated guidelines. We have capacity to do up to 2 lakh tests a day," the statement said.

India's COVID-19 mortality rate at 2.86%

India reported a surge in the COVID-19 fatalities, adding 396 deaths in the past 24 hours. This took the toll across the nation 8,498 on Friday. At present, India's COVID-19 mortality rate is at 2.86 percent. 

India's total recoveries exceed active cases for third consecutive day after 1.47 lakh patients recover 

For third consecutive day, the number of recoveries have exceeded the total number of active COVID-19 cases in India after 1,47,195 patients were cured of the infectious disease. 

Of the total 2,97,535 cases, there are 1,41,842 active corona virus cases, said the health ministry on Friday.

Brazil's COVID-19 toll rises to 40,919

The number of people, who have died of COVID-19 in Brazil, has increased by 1,239 to 40,919 within the past 24 hours, the national Health Ministry said on late Thursday.

COVID-19 cases tops 7.2 million worldwide, says WHO 

The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated the overall number of corona virus cases globally at 7,273,958, with over 413,000 having died from the disease.

The UN health agency said in the situation report published on late Thursday that 128,419 new cases had been recorded in the past day, while further 5,347 patients had died.
