ED Office sealed after five employees test positive

The Enforcement Directorate office has been shut until Sunday after five employees were found to be infected with corona virus. The officials who have tested positive  are - Special Director (HIU), Staff in Legal Section and Intelligence section, IO handling Aviation Scam.

Six Enforcement Directorate employees test positive for COVID-19 

Another official at the Enforcement Directorate tested positive for the novel corona virus, taking the total number of infections to six on Saturday, NDTV quoted sources as saying. 

The headquarters in Delhi at the Lok Nayak Bhawan in Khan Market has been sealed till Sunday.

Over 45 lakh COVID-19 samples tested till now: ICMR 

Of the total 45,24,317 COVID-19 samples tested so far, 1,37,938 were tested in the past 24 hours, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Saturday. 

 

India now sixth worst COVID-hit nation: John Hopkins University 

According to the US-based John Hopkins University, India is now the six worst-affected nation in terms of number of COVID-19 cases with over 2.36 lakh infections. 

The country is now behind US, Brazil, Russia, Spain and the UK, according to the data released by John Hopkins University.

161 new confirmed cases in Andhra take state total to 3,588 

In the past 24 hours, 161 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Andhra Pradesh. The total number of confirmed cases in the state climbed to 3,588 including 1,192 active cases, said the state health department on Saturday.

India reports 9,971 new infections within 24 hours

India reported the highest single-day spike of 9,971 new COVID-19 cases and 287 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country is now at 2,46,628, including 1,20,406 active cases, 1,19,293 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 6,929 deaths.

India becomes fifth worst-hit country by COVID-19

The cases in India rose to 2,46,622 on Sunday, making it the fifth worst-hit country by the corona virus pandemic, according to John Hopkins University data. It left behind Spain and Italy and is now behind US, Brazil, Russia and United Kingdom.

Over 1.42 lakh samples tested in 24 hours: ICMR

A total of 46,66,386 samples have been tested till now for corona virus, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. Out of this, 1,42,069 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

On Saturday, Kerala had announced that it will begin antibody testing from 8 June even as the state witnessed a spike in cases.

130 new cases reported in Andhra Pradesh in 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, 130 new positive cases of COVID-19 and two deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh. Total cases in the state rose to 3,718, including 1,290 active cases, 2,353 discharged persons and 75 deaths.

Global COVID-19 toll crosses 4,00,000

The worldwide death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 4,00,000, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University that health experts say is still an under count because many who died were not tested for the virus. Worldwide, at least 6.9 million people have been infected by the virus, according to Johns Hopkins. The US has seen nearly 110,000 confirmed virus-related deaths and Europe has recorded over 175,000 since the virus emerged in China late last year.

Karnataka reports 239 new cases, two deaths

239 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID19 cases in the state to 5452, according to the bulletin issued by the state health department.  The state also recorded two COVID-19 deaths, taking the toll to 61. Two persons have died due to non-COVID causes, said the bulletin.

COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu surge to 31,667

1,515 more corona virus cases and 18 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu today. Total number of cases in the state mounted to 31,667. This number includes 14,396 active cases, 16,999 discharged and 269 deaths, ANI quoted the State Health Department as saying.

 

Chennai accounts for 1,155 of Tamil Nadu's new infections

Of the 1,515 new cases reported in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, 1,155 were detected in Chennai, taking the total in the city to 22,149. Chennai has so far reported 212 COVID-19 deaths, according to data released by the state health department.

Kerala reports 107 new cases

Kerala on Sunday reported 107 new cases taking the number of active cases in the state to 1,095. 803 persons have recovered int he state so far.

Five JIPMER doctors test positive in Puducherry

 
Five doctors of the Centrally- administered JIPMER were among 12 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in Puducherry on Sunday, taking the number of healthcare personnel infected in the Union Territory to seven. So far, seventy cases have been found in the UT.

Bangladesh sees record single-day jump in fatalities

Bangladesh on Sunday registered its highest single-day increase in corona virus fatalities with 42 deaths, while the total number of cases crossed the 65,000-mark with 2,743 more patients, a media report said.According to the health directorate, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases increased by 2,743 to reach 65,769 in the country, bdnews24.com reported. Additional Director General in the Directorate General of Health Services Nasima Sultana told a media briefing that 13,903 people have so far recovered from the deadly contagion, including 578 patients in the last 24 hours.

Telangana journalist succumbs to COVID-19

 

A 36-year-old journalist working for a Telugu television channel succumbed to COVID-19 at the state-run Gandhi Hospital on Sunday. He was admitted on June 4 after being referred from another state-run hospital
