India's recovery rate rises to 71.9%, case fatality at 1.93%

India has been reporting over 60,000 cases daily since 7 August, barring 11 August when the country registered 53,601 new instances of the infection. The case fatality rate has declined to 1.93 percent.

India's COVID-19 tally increased to 25,89,682 with a single-day spike of 63,490 cases, while the total number of recoveries rose to 18,62,258 pushing the recovery rate to 71.91 per cent on Sunday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

South Korea records highest daily cases

South Korea has reported 279 new corona virus cases in the highest daily jump since early March, as fears grow about a massive outbreak in the greater capital region.

The figures released by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Sunday brought the national caseload to 15,318, including 305 deaths. The number of new cases is the highest since 367 on 8 March.

98-year-old war veteran defeats COVID-19

Indian Navy on Sunday said that a 98-yr-old retired war veteran Sepoy Ramu Laxman Sakpal has defeated the novel coronavirus, reports ANI.

"Sepoy Ramu Laxman Sakpal (Retd), a 98-yr-old war veteran, residing at Nerul was admitted to Naval Hospital Ship Asvini in a critical state. He was diagnosed with Pneumonia due to COVID a few weeks ago. His condition was successfully managed, leading to freedom from COVID-19," the statement from the Indian Navy read.

Sakpal (Retd) was accorded a warm farewell at INHS Asvini, the primary naval healthcare centre in the war against COVID-19 and managing the care of serving and retired COVID-19 patients from Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard.

Dilip Kumar's brothers test positive, hospitalised

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar's brothers, Ehsaan Khan and Aslam Khan, have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently in hospital, reports PTI. Ehsaan, 90 and Aslam, 88, were admitted to Lilavati Hospital late Saturday night after they complained of breathlessness.  Both the brothers, who live separately from Dilip Kumar, are being treated by Dr Jalil Parkar.  "They were brought to the hospital late Saturday night. They have tested positive for COVID-19. Their oxygen levels are low and both of them are on non-invasive ventilator support," Parkar told PTI

Corona virus strain that’s '10 times more infectious' detected in Malaysia

Malaysia has detected a strain of the new corona virus that’s been found to be 10 times more infectious, reports Bloomberg.

The mutation called D614G was found in at least three of the 45 cases in a cluster that started from a restaurant owner returning from India and breaching his 14-day home quarantine. The man has since been sentenced to five months in prison and fined. The strain was also found in another cluster involving people returning from the Philippines.

India has exceeded 3 crore tests, says Centre

The Ministry of Health on Monday said that with focus on timely and aggressive testing, India has exceeded three crore tests. "Enhanced and timely testing is not only keeping the Positivity Rate low but also the Fatality Rate low," the ministry added.

India's COVID-19 toll crosses 50,000-mark

The number of deaths in India crossed the 50,000-mark on Monday after 941 people died in 24 hours. The toll is now 50,921. India also reported 57,981 cases in 24 hours, taking the total count to 26,47,663. There are now 6,76,900 active cases, while as many as 19,19,842 people have recovered.

India's case fatality rate falls to 1.92%, recovery at 72.5%

The toll due to corona virus infection climbed to 50,921 with 941 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours. The case fatality rate has declined to 1.92 percent. There are 6,76,900 active cases of corona virus infection in the country.

India’s COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 72.5 percent.

Karnataka minister tests COVID-19 positive

Karnataka BJP MP V Srinivas Prasad tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday, according to PTI. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra, who had met Prasad earlier in the day, went into home quarantine.
