India reports over 66,000 new cases, takes total to 23.9 lakh

India on Thursday reports a case count rises to 23,96,637 after 66,998 new cases were recorded. The toll rises by 942 to 47,033. The reported active COVID-19 cases in India now stand at 6,53,622, according to the Union Health Ministry.

India's COVID-19 recovery at 70.76%

India registered a recovery rate of 70.76 percent, with 16,95,982 people recovering in the country from the highly-contagious COVID-19, according to the Union health ministry on Thursday.

With the death of 942 patients in the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 fatality count rose 47,033, the Union Health Ministry said.

8.3 lakh COVID-19 tests in past 24 hrs, total figure at 2.68 crore: health ministry 

With tests of over 8 lakh COVID-19 samples, India tested the highest the number of samples for the corona virus disease, said the health ministry on Thursday. This took the cumulative testing figure in India to 2,68,45,688 crore.

A record 8,30,391 samples were tested on Wednesday in the country. 

"In pursuance of the ''test, track and treat'' strategy, India is geared up to reach the testing capacity of 10 lakh tests per day," the ministry said.

Over 64,000 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day, says health ministry 

India registered 64,553 fresh COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative figure to 24,61,191 on Friday, said the health ministry. At least 1,007 more deaths take the COVID-19 toll in the country to 48,040. 

"The COVID-19 tally in the country rises to 24,61,191 including 6,61,595 active cases, 17,51,556 discharged/migrated and 48,040  deaths," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Russia produces first batch of virus vaccine, says health ministry

Russia said Saturday that it has produced the first batch of its corona virus vaccine, after President Vladimir Putin announced it had been first in the world to approve a vaccine, reports AFP.

Putin's announcement on Tuesday about the vaccine was met with caution from scientists and the World Health Organization who said it still needed a rigorous safety review.

"The first batch of the novel corona virus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya research institute has been produced," the health ministry said in a statement quoted by Russian news agencies.

Global toll due to COVID-19 rises to 7.6 lakh; over 2.1 crore cases registered

The pandemic has killed at least 7,60,739 people worldwide since surfacing in China late last year, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1100 GMT on Saturday. More than 21 million cases have been registered.

The United States has recorded the most deaths with 168,446, followed by Brazil with 106,523, Mexico 55,908, India with 49,036 and Britain 41,358.

India reports 63,489 new cases today, total rises to 25.89 lakh

India on Sunday reported 63,489 new coronavirus cases in the country, according to the Ministry of Health. The toll was up by 944 to 49,980. This took the total number of cases in the country to 25,89,682.

ICMR conducted over 7.46 lakh tests yesterday

India has so far conducted at least 2,93,09,703 tests, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. On Saturday alone, 7.46 lakh tests were conducted.

India has lowest COVID-19 mortality rate globally, says Centre

With a sharp fall in the case fatality rate to below 2 percent, India has one of the lowest COVID-19 mortality globally, according to the health ministry. The USA crossed 50,000 deaths in 23 days, Brazil in 95 days and Mexico in 141 days, which India took 156 days.
