FIR against 13 in Pune for violating lockdown

A FIR has been registered at Chikhali Police Station of Pimpri-Chinchwad area in Pune against 13 people for allegedly violating lockdown orders after they gathered on a terrace of a building in Chikhali on 27 March to offer Friday namaz, ANI reported.

China sees drop in local transmissions, Hubei reports no new cases

Mainland China reported 31 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, including one locally transmitted infection, the country's National Health Commission said, dropping from 45 cases a day earlier.

Hubei province, where the coronavirus outbreak first emerged in late 2019, reported no new cases for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday after the province of 60 million people lifted its traffic restrictions and resumed some domestic flights to other parts of China.

Mexico reports 145 fresh cases, four deaths in 24 hrs

Mexico’s health ministry on Sunday confirmed 145 new coronavirus cases and four new deaths in the last 24 hours, for a total of 993 cases and 20 deaths, Reuters reported.

Centre suspends four key Delhi govt officers for lapses in ensuring lockdown 

The Centre on on Sunday initiated disciplinary proceedings against four senior officers of the Delhi government after scores of migrant labourers had gathered in large numbers at Delhi's Anand Vihar over Saturday and Sunday.

The Union home ministry suspended with immediate effect Additional Chief Secretary of the Transport Department, and Principal Secretary, Finance and Divisional Commissioner (GNCTD), while also issuing a showcase notice to Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Land Buildings Departments, GNCTD and the Sub divisional magistrate of Seelampur SDM Seelampur.

"It has been brought to the notice of the competent authority that the officers, who were responsible to ensure strict compliance to the instructions issued by Chairperson, National Executive Committee, formed under Disaster Managment Act 2005 regarding containment of spread of COVID-19, have prima facie failed to do so," the ministry said.

Nepal extends ban on all international flights till 15 April

 

 

Nepal government has extended ban on all international flights till 15 April as a measure to prevent to stall the spread of the novel coronavirus. The decision was taken by the High Power Coordination Committee for the prevention and control of novel Coronavirus in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The government has also decided to allow Nepalis stuck at border points on their way back home on the basis of their identity cards. However, they have to compulsorily undergo a 14-day quarantine at the nearest quarantine facility.

CBS scribe Maria Mercader succumbs to COVID-19

CBS News producer and talent executive Maria Mercader died of the novel coronavirus in New York on Sunday, CBS said. She was 54. She had been on medical leave for an unrelated matter since late February, the network said in a release.

Mercader "courageously fought cancer and related illnesses for 20 years, enduring numerous treatments and surgeries," CBS said, adding, "To her colleagues and family, she was an inspiration and a symbol of hope each time she returned to work after the latest medical setback threatened to end her life."

Second COVID-19 death in West Bengal 

Another COVID-19 patient died in West Bengal on Monday, taking the state's toll up to two, PTI reported.

West Bengal reported its first case of coronovirus death in Kolkata on 23 March. A 57-year-old resident of Dum Dum was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on 16 March. The patient tested positive for the disease on 21 March.

Telangana likely to be COVID-19 free by 7 April if no fresh cases emerge: K Chandrashekar Rao

Telangana may come out of the novel corornavirus pandemic by the end of April first week, provided there are no fresh cases reported, chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at Pragati Bhavan after a video-conference with district officials, KCR said all 25,937 people who had been quarantined and were under surveillance by the state medical and health department authorities would be completing their 14-day quarantine period by 7 April. 

“Starting with 1,899 people on Monday, these people would be declared safe in a phased manner every day and by 7 April, all of them would be cleared of Covid-19. These quarantined people include foreign returnees, their relatives and close contacts, who had been identified and kept in isolation,” he said.

In a tweet, Prasar Bharati said they spoke with Cabinet Secretary who clarified that there is no plan of extending the lockdown.

South Korea reports 78 new coronavirus cases, total above 9,600

The number of confirmed cases in South Korea is nearing 9,700 after the country reported 78 new cases on Monday.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said the national tally stood at 9,661, while the death toll rose by 6 to 158. It added that 195 more people had recovered from the virus for a total of 5,228
