Loss of smell, taste early symptom of COVID-19: Report

A loss of smell and taste may be the early symptom of COVID-19 infection, according to a latest report by a leading American professional association of medical specialists. Currently, there have been reports of taste and smell disorders related to COVID-19 from multiple countries around the world as well as within the US, said James C Denneny III, MD, executive vice president and CEO of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).

China reports 45 new coronavirus cases, five deaths

China has reported 45 new coronavirus cases including one locally transmitted case while the death toll due to COVID-19 reached 3,300 with five new fatalities, health officials said Sunday. The new domestically transmitted case was reported in Henan province on Saturday, the country's National Health Commission (NHC) said. The five new fatalities were all reported from the epicentre Hubei province, taking the death toll to 3,300, it said.

3 more test positive in Bengal, two of them have no travel history abroad

Three women from two different parts of West Bengal on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19, taking to 18 the total number of people suffering from the disease in the state, a senior official of the state health department said. Two women, aged 76 and 56 years, are residents of Egra in south Bengal's East Midnapore district while the third, a 54-year-old, is from Kalimpong in Darjeeling district of north Bengal. Neither of the two women from Egra have recently travelled abroad or to any other state, the official said, adding that it was being ascertained whether the third woman had any recent travel history.

275 Indians from Iran reach Jodhpur

Another batch of 275 Indian citizens brought in from Iran have reached Jodhpur. They would be kept at the Indian army's wellness centre. 277 Indians evacuated earlier this month from Iran are already lodged at this centre.

Princess Maria Teresa of Spain becomes first royal to die from COVID-19

Spanish Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma has become the first royal to pass away due to coronavirus complications. According to Fox News, the 86-year-old was a cousin of Spain's King Felipe VI. Her brother Prince Sixto Enrique de Borbon, the Duke of Aranjuez, announced on Facebook that she died after contracting COVID-19.

The post reads, "On this afternoon, our sister Maria Teresa de Borbon Parma and Borbon Busset, a victim of the coronavirus COVID-19, died in Paris at the age of eighty-six."

Princess Teresa's death comes weeks after King Felipe VI of Spain tested negative for the virus.

Toll rises to 25, confirmed cases at 979

The number of COVID-19 patients who have died in India rose to 25 on Sunday morning – an increase of six since the previous government update. Sixty-one new patients were confirmed across the country, taking the number of cases to 979. Of these, 86 have now recovered.

Three new cases emerge in Gujarat, state's tally at 58

Three more coronavirus cases were reported in Gujarat on Sunday, taking the total number of COVID-19 patients in the state to 58, an official said.

All the three new cases were reported from Ahmedabad, principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi said.

Of these three, a 45-year-old man died at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning, she said, adding that the patient was
also suffering from diabetes.

Two other new patients included a 67-year-old woman, whose husband had earlier tested positive, and a 34-year-old man who recently visited Mumbai, she said.

SpiceJet pilot tests positive for COVID-19

SpiceJet said on Sunday that one of its pilots, who did not fly any international flight in March, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

"One of our colleagues, a first officer with SpiceJet, has tested positive for COVID-19. The test report came on 28 March. He did not operate any international flight in March 2020," the airline's spokesperson told PTI.

AAI raises Rs 20 crore for PM Modi's Covid-19 fund

Airports Authority of India (AAI) employees have raised Rs 20 crore as an initial contribution towards the PM CARES funds to fight the menace of coronavirus. AAI has said, "Collectively, as responsible citizens of this country, we shall make all efforts to protect, empower and help affected communities to tide over this emergency."

Air force presses aircraft into action to ferry medical supplies

40-year-old woman passes away in Mumbai

A 40-year old coronavirus patient passed away in Mumbai, a day after being admitted following severe respiratory complications. She was also a hypertension patient.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Maharashtra have now gone up to seven.
